Marjorie Spencer Obituary

July 20, 1929-August 17, 2006 - Margie Spencer, age 77, passed away August 17, 2006 surrounded by friends and loved ones. She was a co-owner of Spencer's Lawn & Garden Center since 1958. She was born the youngest of eight siblings born to William and Nancy (Broadwater) Keating of Halstead, KS. She moved to Colorado Springs at the age of five and though an avid world traveler, always looked forward to being home. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Noble Spencer, Jr.; her daughter,Alice (husband, Dan) Robinson; her son, Mike (wife, Susan) Spencer; granddaughters: Heather and Amy; sister-in-law, Mary (husband, Charles) Kirby and many nieces and nephews. She helped raise many children and was especially influential in the lives of Kurt Keating and Gary Puckett. Her daughter, Nancy Spencer-Gillette; seven siblings; and her parents preceded her in death. Margie graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1947. She was a member of Ivywild Presbyterian Church, Elks Wives #309, the Order of the Eastern Star and Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Her passions included bowling, (she belonged to several leagues), attending national bowling tournaments, traveling and music. She especially enjoyed taking care of her geraniums. A visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Funeral Services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 24 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses. Cremation is planned. A reception will follow the services at Spencer's Lawn and Garden Center, 1430 S. Tejon Street. Memorials may be made to the Margie Spencer Memorial Fund, c/o Mountain View Bank, 24 South Weber Street, Colorado Springs, CO., 80903. Margie wanted to thank all of her family, friends, and loyal customers for their love and support over the years and she wanted to remind everyone "to always count your blessings.

Margie made our bowling league such a pleasure to bowl. I especially enjoyed and loved her dearly for her smile, generosity and for being such a fun person to bowl with. She has left behind such wonderful memories for each of us. She can honestly say this life was a heck of a ride.

We always looked forward to having coffee with Margie in her kitchen and talking with her and Jr. Margie was always so kind to our entire family. Margie, we look forward to the time we can sit down with you up there in heaven and talk over a cup coffee once again.



In the meantime, our greatest love goes out to you and your family. We will miss you immensely. Thanks for the memories.
