Marsha Strackany Obituary

Marsha Helen Strackany, age 72, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away at 4:00 AM, Thursday, April 28th, 2016 at her home in Black Forest, Colorado. Marsha was born to Nathan Lynn & Helen Caroline McDowell, the second of two children, on November 21st, 1943 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

After moving from Woodward, Oklahoma at age 6, Marsha lived primarily in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She graduated from Wasson High School in 1961. She lived in Honolulu, Hawaii from 1965 to 1967. She started her thirty-four year career in civil service, in 1961 at the age of eighteen, where she held positions at: NORAD and United States Air Defense Command in Colorado Springs; Pacific Air Command at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu; and in 1967 she started at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs where she worked until her retirement in 2000. Her tireless efforts to improve the working conditions of women encouraged her to join Federally Employed Women where she held offices in various local, regional, and national positions over the last three decades.

The most important thing in Marsha's life was her dedication to, and love of, her family. "Nana" was the heartbeat of the family and the glue that kept them together. Her masterful cooking during holidays and family functions delighted all who attended. Her beautiful glow encompassed everyone she knew, and her compassion for all was unmatched. In the company of her husband she enjoyed travelling, ocean cruises, and vacations at the beach in Mexico. All that knew her will miss her inspiration and vibrant personality. She will be fondly remembered for an eternity.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved husband Renald Stan Strackany (Renny), her loving children: Darla Kay Smith and husband Cary of Denver, Colorado; Cherri Lyn Snuggs and husband Scott of Poplar Grove, Illinois; and Ernest Charles West III of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her cherished grandchildren: Ryan, Shauna, Kayleigh, Kimberly, Shane, Kristopher, and Maggie; her precious great-grandchildren: Kiana, Ariel, Addisen, Ashton, Rory, and Cody; her caring brother, Michal Lynn and wife Linda McDowell of Florescent, Colorado; her passionate nieces: Laura, Shannon, Andrea, and Kathryn; her kind cousin James; and her immensely devoted friends.

All functions will be held at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 4th, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 PM, and Thursday, May 5th, 2016 from 1:00-2:00 PM. A celebration of her blessed life service is scheduled for Thursday, May 5th, 2016 at 2:00 PM. Marsha's remains will be cremated and returned home with her loved ones.

In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, 610 Abbot Lane, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80905.

My prayers and deepest sympathy to the family now and always . It was a joy to love Marsha. I will always remember her glowing smile and consoling hand. I stood on Marsha's strong shoulders as I held many positions as a Federally Employed Women officers and member. I will pass everything that she taught me forward to all of those I meet in my path. To love Marsha was to love everyone that she loved. May the blessings of the Lord be with you now and always

Marsha's beautiful smile could warm a cold heart! She was a vibrant and loving person and the best kind of friend. Will and I were blessed to have her, Renny and the whole family in our lives these many years. I hope she and Will are still laughing wherever souls go after they leave this earth. Marsha was a positive influence in so many lives. She will be sorely missed by her family and her many friends. I cherish the many memories I have of her.

I met Marsha as so many others did I'm sure through FEW. She was an amazing mentor and friend. Several years back, I accepted a promotion in a place thousands of miles away from everything I was familiar with. As I pondered over whether to accept the position, I remembered Marsha telling me "don't live with regrets, seize the moment." My friend, you will be missed by many, but the impact on so many lives you made will never be forgotten. God has taken another angel home. I'm sorry but I just saw this on facebook and live out of state so I will be unable to attend the funeral. You all are in my prayers.

Marsha will be missed by all of her friends and family because of the love and compassion she shared with us and because of her wonderful spirit for life. She will remain in the hearts and minds of her FEW friends always. I will miss this beautiful woman more than I can ever express.

There Marsha is! Right in the middle! The true "queen-pin" of our group.

I know that Marsha's family was her most important connection to this world but I felt privileged to know her outside of the family context. Marsha was a generous and compassionate woman for as long as I have known her (over a decade, possibly more). I have seen her in some difficult situations where everyone in the board room was falling apart. Her ability to reason with others while showing empathy was, frankly, quite inspiring.

She was beautiful on the outside (I remember that bathing photo of her when she was a knockout 20 something!) as well as the inside. She had a smile for all and once she met you, you were a friend. Marsha was such a rare and wonderful person that I can't imagine that I will never talk to, laugh with, or drink a rum and coke with her again. She set an example for everyone that met her and I can only hope to follow in her footsteps. I will truly miss you Marsha.
