Martha Barber Obituary

Martha LaDell Barber, 73, passed away from cancer at her home in Ruidoso, New Mexico on December 6, 2013. She was born on May 9, 1940 in Hobbs, New Mexico, one of two children of Albert and Eula Geiger. LaDell graduated from Denver City High School in Denver City, Texas. She was a longtime resident of Ruidoso but also spent years in Monahans, Texas and Phoenix, Arizona. A divorced mother of two, she returned to Ruidoso to run her family's antique business, The House of Antiques, which was opened by her parents in the early 1960's. She ran the popular shop until 2005 when she chose to retire; however, antiquing remained her passion long after retirement. LaDell and her parents were longtime members of the First Baptist Church of Ruidoso.

LaDell is survived by her son Larry Barber and his wife Sheri; daughter Lisa Barber; two grandchildren: Jeffrey Agnew and Kaitlin Liermann; brother in-law Daniel Stroup, niece Dena Grundreth and nephew Stephen Stroup. She will also be deeply missed by her loyal English Bulldog, Miss Priss, who was at her side at the time of her passing.

LaDell is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Eula Geiger, and her sister Neta Stroup. Graveside services will be Friday, January 3, 2014 1:00 PM at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The family is extremely grateful for the compassion, benevolence and love shown by friends, fellow church members, and all the special home health care and hospice angels who were a Godsend to both LaDell and her caretakers.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Ruidoso Hospice Foundation, In Memory of LaDell Barber, P.O. Box 555 Ruidoso, NM 88355, or the charity of your choice.
