Martha Gordon Obituary

Martha Mary Gordon passed away on April 10, 2015 at home in Colorado Springs at age 68 with her family at her side. She lost a valiant eight-year struggle with ovarian cancer, but won the hearts, minds and love of all those who were privileged to know her in social and professional settings. A native of New Jersey, she had been a resident of Colorado since 1990 after traveling the country and Europe as a military spouse.

A graduate of the College of St. Elizabeth (Convent Station, NJ) with a Bachelor's Degree in English and Ball State University (Wiesbaden, Germany) with a Master's Degree in Counseling, she spent her career in education. She served as School Counselor at Monterey Elementary School in Colorado Springs, retiring in 2011.

Martha was a deeply religious and faith-filled person and former Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth. She was a parishioner at St. Peter Catholic Church in Monument, where she served as a lector and Team Lead for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). An excellent platform speaker and teacher, she drew commendation from all for her communication and interpersonal skills.

Martha is survived by her husband, Col. Harold Gordon, USAF (RET); her son, Chris Gordon, MD; daughters Beth Gormley (John Gormley) and Amy Leck; four granddaughters, Korra, Haloe, Kiersten and Isabella; and grandson, Brennan.

Visitation Thursday, April 16th at 6 PM with a Vigil Service at 7 PM to 8 PM. Funeral Mass Friday, April 17th at 10:00 AM, both services at St. Peter Catholic Church, 55 N. Jefferson Street, Monument, Colorado. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver on Monday, April 20th at 11:30 AM Staging area "B".

Contributions may be made in Martha's honor to the American Cancer Society.

I always smile when I think of Martha. Her love and steady compassion for all she met was heartwarming. I knew her at Monterey as s an exceptionally caring and loving counselor to our students. She had a deep and abiding loyalty to her faith and her family, She will be missed but is still with us in our hearts in a different capacity. Condolences to her family.
