Two of the greatest songs ever written about love and faith are Marty's "Today" and "Comin Back To Me". Both of them carried me through a difficult time in my life. I list my relationship as a student...a student of his music. His death although untimely, is a rite of passage. Thank you Marty and Rest In Peace.

Good by Marti, I did not know you personally but because I grew up as a teenager in the late 1960s and living in Mill Valley, Corte Madera, Ca I did attend The Avalon Ballroom and the original Fillmore auditorium when The Airplane played. I do remember your house on E. Bleithdale in Mill Valley that had the huge white lighted wreath on it. What a time the late 60s were. While I was in Vietnam close to Cambodia when I got back to my base I always put on Surrealitic Pillow tape and it made me think of Home. Thank you Marti.

Such a loss to the music world - thanks for leaving us such beautiful memories. I was fortunate to hear some stories from Marty's sister, Joan Benton, whom I worked with in the late 90s and early 2000s.

From the first time I heard Marty's angelic tenor voice, I was hooked. He inspired me with his music and his message - I will miss him, and treasure the memories forever.

I was a roommate of Martys sister, Joan Benton, living on Belvedere Street in San Francisco, from October 1970 through April 1976. At Joans home, I met Marty several times. Joan passed in 2005. Condolences to Martys family and friends.

Marty Balin was one of the great ones - under-recognized considering his wonderful voice and lyrical talent. Runaway was and still is one of my favorite songs of all times. Rest In Peace Marty and Thanks for the Magic!

I am sorry to hear about Marty Balin. My condolence for the Balin family and all of Mary's friends. I have been a fan of Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship since I first heard them. Paul, Diana, Marty & Jack were great in the Jefferson Starship in the 1990-2000's. any time they were within a few hundres miles I saw them amd now I am lonely & have little to see or so. Marty & Paul I miss you both. Diana ia miss u too.

Love the Jefferson Airlpane, since I was a kid. Saw u guys in Chicago in 76, u were great Marty, I'm so sad to hear of your passing, you, Paul and spencer. Are together again, sing it loud and strong guys.

I always liked the airplane sense I was 15 years .I never got to see him live in concert.

I wasn't old enough to attend Monterey or Woodstock(born in 1963) but I've always loved the Jefferson Airplane/Starship. My favorite JA song with Marty on lead vocals is "Comin' Back To Me". Haunting and beautiful. RIP Marty.

Wow another one gone from us. I do believe he could sing anything. I loved the way he and Grace sang together in fact I use that style when I run sound for bands with a male and female singers. We will see you again.

I spent many wonder hours rehearsing singing when I sang with Marty in 1963-63. We were roommates on the road with the San Francisco Towncriers, who featured soprano, Jan Elliskson and Larry Vargo, leader & arranger. I cherish a sketch Marty made of me playing guitar in our hotel room, He was a true artist, I honestly miss him. Hope he's at peace. Sincere brotherly love, Bill Collins

Jefferson Airplane was an outstanding collection of musical artists, when Marty Balin and Grace Slick sang together, in my opinion, they were incomparable for they were in a class by themselves.

I loved his voice. His song "Miracles" was and always will be mine and my husband's song. We got married and started out with very little money and we related to this song, "but we got by". 43 yrs and going strong! Love you Marty!

You can count on me for always, always remembering the tremendous contribution you made to the music world - peace and rest to you Marty

Marty was a fabulous musician, known worldwide. Few people knew Marty lived in the
Tampa Bay area, moving from San Francisco after marrying Karen Deal, noted
Tampa musician. Karen tragically passed away years ago. Marty leaves his current wife, Sue, and his daughter Delaney, Marty was my son in law.

Marty will live on the hearts of all who loved the music of the Jefferson Airplane, and Jefferson Starship, including mine. His music was an important part of my youth. It's no secret how much Jefferson Airplane did with his voice. I believe we'll get by but he will be surely missed. He gave our generation soul! He was not just a " knockout" at Altamont. He and Grace made us all feel larger. Marty Balin was more than just a singer in a rock and roll band! He was a prominent musical revolutionary that provided tonic for the troops. I bathed my pointy little head at Baxter's. This guy had pipes! Today seems surrealistic. Always in my mental jukebox. He still "knocks me out!"
