Mary Ann McRae Obituary

Mary Ann McRae, longtime Colorado Springs resident and retired school teacher, passed away on May 5, 2009. Mary Ann was born November 29, 1924 in Kansas City, Kansas to Ira F. and Ester G. (Matthews) Coleman. She grew up in Kansas until her family relocated in 1942 to Colorado Springs. Mary Ann graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1943. She furthered her education earning her BS in Music from the College of Emporia in Emporia, Kansas, her BS in Education from Colorado College and her MS in Education also from Colorado College. Mary Ann was a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1942. Her lifelong passion for music lead her to sing opera and was in many organizations such as the Colorado Springs Chorale and was a 50+ year member of the First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir. She also enjoyed cross-stitching and reading. Survivors include four children; Lee McRae, Julie Clayton, Suzan DeLawter and Richard Taylor, one sister; Lila Sullivan, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A Visitation will be held from 1 - 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful� Chapel of Roses. Entombment will follow in the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum.
