Mary Carter Obituary

Mary Frances Carter died Sunday, May 21, 2006 in her home after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. Mary was born to Frank and Margaret Brown on September 4, 1940 in Helena, Montana. She graduated from Holy Rosary High School and attended Montana State University where she was a member of the PI Beta Phi Sorority. On June 10, 1961, she married Dr. Richard Carter. They moved to Colorado Springs in 1966, where they raised their three daughters. Mary was a homemaker, but volunteered countless hours with the PTA and was instrumental in protecting the safety of children by lobbying for school zones on the city's busiest streets. Most of all she was a woman who loved her family and friends dearly. Mary is survived by her husband, Richard; her daughters: Nancy Beattie, Julie Cohen and Ann-Marie Estes; her seven grandchildren: Tim, Megan, Alyssa, Brittany, Katie, Josh and Gillian; her sister, Danny; and her brother, Robert. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Chester. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, May 25, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Apostles Catholic Church: 4925 N. Carefree Circle, Colorado Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 26, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Apostles. A private internment will be held on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation, 825 E. Pikes Peak Ave. Suite 600, Colorado Springs, CO., 80903.

Dr. Carter and girls-

Growing up on the same street made trips to the dentist a treat, not torture. I'll miss Mary's presence - she was a special lady.

I am glad I went with my heart and stopped by to give Mary my three gifts: a kiss, a hug and a big thanks for being so kind to my family, especially my children.

There is a good game table up there somewhere and they aren't the quite ones with all their laughter and jokes.

Dr.Carter,

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I have considered you a friend for years, and though I never met your wife,I felt as if I knew her from all our conversations about our families. I was also a lucky recipient of some of her delicious cookies at Halloween one year. Know that she is in a better place and out of pain, and will be watching over your family from above.

Sincerely,

Gayle Norwood & kids
