Mary Haynes Obituary

Mary J. Haynes, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1968, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016. Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Mary was born on May 12, 1937 in Hardin, Kentucky to Bernard and Louise Frank.

Mary most loved the Colorado outdoors and times of camping, fishing and family BBQs. She treasured the holidays surrounded by all her loved ones. She also enjoyed reading and countless hours engaged in intense card matches and board games. Mary was a frugal, and wonderful, southern comfort food cook and since she already prepared meals for a small army, she was comfortable to welcome unexpected guests to share the meal. In her younger years she enjoyed gardening, canning and sewing. Most of all Mary cherished her time with her husband, children and especially when surrounded with all her little grands and great-grandchildren!

She is survived by her children: Charles A. Haynes, Thomas E. Haynes, Mary Louise Biksen, Peggy S. Johnson, Cindy L. Haynes, Emily M. Porter, Nancy E. Allen; five sisters; Nancy, Rita, Margaret, Susie and Joyce; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Arthur, and also 2 brothers and 1 sister.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Widefield Community Bible Church, 702 Quebec Street, with a reception to follow. Inurnment will be private.

Last night I held a hand so soft and warm with life

Last night I held a hand which weakly held mine and gently squeezed, conveying a few remembrances of times gone past in the only way it could.

The body was weakened and racked with pain. A mere shell of the powerful, tender, loving woman that once did so much with the hand I now held so gently in my hand.

Tonight I held a hand, and time was frozen. The busy world hurrying past was unimportant and blurry. The only important thing was the hand I held and the thoughts and love and caring that passed between us as I held her hand.

Tonight I held a hand as she had selflessly done for me and many others when it was us in pain or in need

Tonight I held a hand and I went home and wept as Jesus now holds her hand and she holds our hearts.

We didn't plan it that way, but we've always gotten through
Mom you are so needed, we didn't plan on losing you

Somewhere in our hearts we thought you'd always be there
Talking on the phone, cooking, or just sitting in your chair

Saying goodbye and leaving you then getting in the car
That is going to hurt mom, it is gonna leave a scar

You taught us to be strong mom, but that won't be for today
The tears are going to fall mom cuz we didn't plan it out this way

But we didn't plan for some other things and we got through them all
You've given us love and memories that will help when teardrops fall

Mom you've taught us many things so we have strength to endure
You've left your love on all our hearts that I say for sure
