Mary Jo Gostnell Obituary

Mary Jo Gostnell passed away peacefully on December 30, 2014, after a week long effort to overcome injuries received from a fall in her home.

Mary was born in Colorado Springs, Co on December 8, 1937 to her German Immigrant Father, Joseph (Josef) Edward and mother Verna Inez (Tipton) Meier. She was the oldest of three children, having two brothers; George Edward and Donald Eugene. Mary was 12 years old when her mother passed away. Donald survives her.

Mary's early life was centered very much on the Catholic Church. She attended services and school at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She had an Aunt who was a Catholic Nun that shared with Mary her potential for a life of service within the Catholic Church.

On the 4th day of June, 1954, Mary traveled to Colfax County (Raton) New Mexico, where she and James "ED" Gostnell were married. They were married for 54 years before death separated them. Together they had three sons; Richard, Steven and Larry. All of which contributed to the bounty of grand-children and great-grandchildren that Mary cherished so very much.

Home and family were the focus of Mary's life. She was blessed with love and support from her mother's large and loving family. Extended family that helped to raise her and her brother George when their own mother passed away. She took that experience into her own way of life. In her home you were always treated as family.

Words cannot express the unique love that Mary had for others. In her presence, one just knew that they could be themselves. Share with her their deepest thoughts, feelings and fears and be confident that no matter what, they were never judged. Just loved.

Those of us who were Blessed to have Mary in our lives understand that her physical body has passed; but her Spirit, her Essence, and her Love will forever be a part of each and every one of us.

No tribute to Mary would be complete unless Mary's love for cats was addressed. All who knew her knew of her love for all things cat.
