Mary Kemmerer Obituary

February 20, 1944 - February 6, 2009 Mary E. "Liz" Kemmerer, wife of Dale L. Kemmerer, M.D. of thirty-six years, died on February 6, 2009 in loving hospice care at home. She had been ill for nearly 6 years with pancreatic cancer. However, she continued to care for her family, paint and decorate her home, cook for and entertain friends, read mystery books galore, travel to Mexico, and was learning two new crafts before she passed on. Liz was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, eldest of five children of Joseph and Irene (Reymos) Zikmund. She was educated in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania schools, graduating from high school in 1962. She was employed for nearly a decade as a secretary and administrative assistant. She and her husband have lived in Red Lodge, Montana, Grand Island, Nebraska, and resided in Colorado Springs, Colorado since 1991. She was active in many organizations, among them, the Carbon County Arts Guild, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Docent Program and Fellowship Team at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church. She is the mother of Craig (Jen) Kemmerer, Colorado Springs, and step mother to Jeffrey Kemmerer and Michelle (Stan) Yevelson of Pennsylvania. She is grandmother to three, Lily Alana Kemmerer, Alexander Yevelson and Ethan Yevelson. She was foster mother to many children in Montana and surrogate mother to seven Rotary foreign exchange students. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will take place, Valentine's Day, Saturday, February 14, 2009, 11:00AM at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 730 N Tejon Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Lunch will be served afterward along with one of Liz's favorite desserts. In lieu of flowers, gifts to Liz's loved organizations are appreciated.
