Mary Miller Obituary

Mary "Winnie" Miller age 89, of Canon City passed away Oct. 30, 2010, in Canon City. She was born August 28, 1921, in Calhan to the late James E. and Naomi (Pohison) McClelland. She married Earl R. Miller on Nov. 3, 1942, in Calhan. He preceded her in death. Mary grew up working in a potato chip factory that her parents owned in Colorado Springs. While her husband served in World War II, she worked in a Woolworth's in Colorado Springs. Her memories included those of living in a home for "skinny" children until she gained healthy weight. Winnie and her husband Earl ranched East of Peyton off McClelland Road and in the Phantom Canyon near Canon City. Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church, Republican Women Organization, American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 113, and the Fremont County Cowbelle's Club. She is a lifetime Colorado resident having lived in Canon City since 1960. Mary is survived by one daughter, Gail Ann McLean of Canon City; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, James McClelland of Colroado Springs; and one sister, Joy Nickle of Superior Neb. At her request, no services will be held. Our kind and loving Winnie will be remembered and loved by her many nephews and nieces. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church at 107 N. Seventh St., Canon City, CO 81212 or to the American Legion Post 13 at 201 N. Fourth St., Canon City, CO 81212. Condolences at www.gazette.com Cremation handled by holt Family Funeral Home.
