Matthew Philip Moody passed away on the morning of August 13, 2013 in a plane crash outside Chico, CA, at a job he loved. He was 26 years old.
Matt was born on July 14, 1987 in Raleigh, N.C. He was the third child of Barbara Crank Moody and Michael Patrick Moody.
From an early age, Matt loved computers and technology. He created his first website at age 10.
Although Matt grew up in Danville and Alamo, he felt most at home in the peaks of the Sierras and Yosemite. He was an avid rock-climber, slack-liner, and boulderer.
Matt pursued his love of heights in his work. He thrived in the highest treetops working for Hamilton Tree Service of Martinez and in the bluest skies flying in helicopters and planes for Frontline Energy Services.
Matt was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert E. Crank, his maternal grandmother, Betty G. Crank, his maternal uncle, Roger A. Crank, and his dog, Romeo.
Matt is survived by his parents, Barbara Crank Moody and Michael Patrick Moody, his brother, Michael Robert Moody, his sister, Kimberly Anne Moody, his sister-in-law Selin Arsezen Moody, and his girlfriend, Andrea Cerruti. He is also survived by his grandmother, Patricia Ann Moody, his paternal aunts, Lisa Cimino and Christie James, his paternal uncle, Daniel Moody, and his maternal uncles, William David Crank and Robert Douglas Crank. Matt's memory will live on in their loving hearts.
A celebration of Matt's life will take place on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Joan of Arc Church in San Ramon. In place of flowers, donations may be sent to the Yosemite Conservancy (http://www.yosemiteconservancy.org) to help protect the place he loved most.

Dear Mike, Barbara and family,
We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your precious son. No parent should ever have to face such searing pain.
I will always remember his smiling face and kind wave whenever he would drive by when I was out for a walk in the neighborhood.
Thank you both for being such loyal and helpful neighbors all these many years.
Given all of your son's mountain climbing adventures, and his deep love of the natural world, I believe he lived more fully in his short sojourn here on earth, than most people do, even those who live to a ripe old age.
So here's to Matt, and to living life with gusto. He was a brave young man, whose life was cut down in its prime; but nevertheless, he relished and savored the joys of being alive and fully embraced the challenges life has to offer..... he led a life rich with experience, and replete with adventure.
You should be very proud of your handsome, courageous son, and the life he richly lived.
