Matthew Ready Obituary

Born August 4, 1969

Died May 18, 2015

Matthew was born a high-energy child who was on the move from the moment he woke until he finally wore out and that is how he lived his entire life. He was blessed with good looks, intelligence, and charm, but cursed with the disease of addiction. That demon chased him for 35 years and finally caught him, much to the deep sorrow of everyone who loved him, who would have given anything to help him, but knew they were powerless to do so.

His death came after a seven year stretch of sobriety and business success that gave all of us hope and pride in seeing his potential fulfilled. He established his own business, Thor Tires, and applied all his talents and high energy to making it a thriving enterprise. Throughout the last year his great efforts were sabotaged by a relapse that allowed his addiction to destroy him and what he had built. The immediate cause of death has not been determined, but the underlying cause was the demon that he finally could not outrun.

He is survived by his father, Donald Ready; a sister, Lisa Bennetts; a brother Mitchell Ready; and me, his mother, Virginia Stultz Hyde and step-father, Owen Hyde. Also surviving are his former wife of 20 years, Madelaine (May) and the son of his youth that he wisely allowed to be adopted, Patrick Carter.

Virginia, We share the never ending pain of losing a child. I say Matthew´s name as well as Kerry Vail´s to keep the memory alive. Matthew was the sweetest and cutest little boy. My thoughts are with you, Virginia!

No one who knew Matthew will ever forget him. I say his name aloud and share sorrow with his mom!

I still think of that sweet, cute little boy riding his tricycle up and down the sidewalk, fast! And the funny childhood memories his mother shared (like Matthew at age 3 checking out his bottom with a mirror just checking). Losing a child is the most painful thing in the world. I believe we should speak their name often. Matthew, youre missed!

The first time I ever met my father he gave me his gold and silver bracket. I lost it on the playground the next day and cried harder than anybody ever should.

I lost my younger (42 years) brother to this disease. It is such a senseless, horrible loss. No mother's love can stop the progression of an addiction. Obviously, no sister's love can either. My heart goes out to all of you at this most difficult of times. I only knew Matthew for a couple of years but his energy and smile will stay with me. Rest in peace Matthew!

Don, Virginia, Mitch, Lisa, I am really sadened to hear about Matthew. You all would be surprized how often I think of you. I always felt at home and part of your family. The thing I will always remember most about Matt was him learning to read from a picture book while he sat on my lap. The last time I saw him he was probably 13 or so. I could tell he was facing a rough road ahead. I know he did the best he could and all of you did as well. Some things make us people we don't want to be. I'm sorry that happened to Matthew.

Dear Don, Virginia, Mitchell, and Lisa,

Please accept my deepest sympathies on the death of Matthew. I live in COS and had many shared times with Buster, as he was affectionately known.

Buster was easy to bond with in friendship, a shared interest in powersports, totally focused on his business, and indeed had many friends who i met from time to time. He was an intense, hard-working man.

When I needed tires for my truck Buster said just pitch in at the store and work for them. He said when I thought I had worked enough, then they were mine. ;) Working alongside him with his boundless energy was a challenge and true delight.

Buster looked like a young Ready with a perfect blend of Stultz. He had a roguishly handsome quality to him that was very compelling. A real man's man. I am just shocked that he is gone. Buster was a good friend, generous, an animal lover, and a wonderful son. I feel a huge hole in my heart for his loss. My love to you all.
