Maureen Pitts Obituary

Maureen P. Pitts 70, of Ft. Myers, FL and a former resident of Colorado Springs, CO passed away on Monday, December 28, 2009 at Joanne's House at Hope Hospice. She was extremely brave throughout her ordeal with cancer discovered in September. Maureen was born on November 16, 1939 in Middlesex, England, daughter of the late George Ansley and Sylvia Rendle. She met her husband, Major John W. Pitts (Retd), who was stationed in England during the 1950's, and they were married on May 10, 1958. She had been a resident of Ft. Myers since 2008 coming from Colorado Springs where she had lived for 38 years. Maureen was a most loving, caring and generous wife, mother and grandmother who touched many lives. If death could be considered beautiful, peaceful and a gift from God, her's epitomized these things. She is survived by her loving husband John of 51 years, of Ft. Myers, FL; son, Michael J. (Tania) Pitts of Austin, TX; daughter, Beverly J. Ansley of Colorado Springs, CO and 4 grandchildren, Camden M. Ashmore, Samantha J. Consonero, Joseph A. Pitts and Isabella E. Pitts. Graveside services will be held in the spring at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. The family suggests any memorial donations in her name be made to Joanne's House at Hope Hospice 27200 Imperial Pkwy., Bonita Springs, FL 34135.

To the Pitts Family: Where do you start, John & Maureen were the first friends we made when we moved to Monument in 1977, there is know way to express the feelings we have for the whole Pitts family We love you all and our hearts hurt for you. Maureen will always be in our thoughts and we can not express to you the family how much she and you all mean to us. She is resting in peace now with no pain. Remember the good, funny and loving times and hopefully that will give you some comfort.

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the Pitts family. I was blessed to be part of this family for a number of years since Beverly and I became friends. Maureen was like my second mom and was thankful for her love and caring heart to me. She gave us each a part of herself in her own special ways and for that she has left an imprint on my heart for her part in my life. She will be missed dearly but not forgotten for she was loved by many. My love goes out to my best friend Beverly, John, Camden, Michael and his family, and my Goddaughter Samantha.
Love to Maureen who is now resting in peace.

Maureen was a good neighbor and a great friend! I thoroughly enjoyed joining with her in the 4-year feral cat rescue (of more than 30 cats/kittens in Winewood Village) and will never forget catching a wild raccoon in a trap set for "Papa Kitty." She got such a kick out of that!!! Maureen always was generous with a tasty goodie from her kitchen (banana nut muffins, etc.), and get-togethers at her and John's condo were always fun! We were sad to see them leave Colorado (and their beloved Beverly and Samantha), but we wished them a long and happy life in Florida. I am sorry that was not to be for Maureen - but she can now have a beautiful eternity in heaven.

My thoughts and prayers are with you always. I'm so sorry for your loss--Maureen will always have a special spot in my heart as she was always one of my 'moms'. Beverly and I grew up together and I practically lived at the Pitts' house during high school. She was always a character and I carry special memories of her. She was such a class act, even when she snuck up on us and hosed us down while we sunbathed on her deck ;). I will miss her dearly. I'm so thankful for having the opportunity and pleasure of knowing her. I take comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering from the painful effects of cancer. Rest in peace, Maureen. You will be missed and forever loved.
