Maurice Ransom Obituary

Maurice E. Ransom (Maury), age 64, went home to be with the Lord on September 24, 2006. He was born April 15, 1942 in Stromsburg, NE to Mervin & Mildred Ransom, both deceased. As a child, he grew up on a farm. After graduating from high school in 1960, he attended college at The University of Nebraska at Kearney and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business in 1963. Maury married Ann Ette Watts in 1963. After moving to Colorado with Ann Ette, they started a family, which grew to include three daughters. During this time he attended the University of Northern Colorado to receive his Master's degree in 1965 and achieved his Doctoral degree from Colorado State University in 1973. He started his career as a high school teacher in Clarks, NE and continued in Colorado Springs where he taught and coached at Mitchell and Palmer high schools and retired as a professor at Pikes Peak Community College. Upon his retirement from teaching in 1996, Maury pursued his Shaklee business on a full time basis where he had an opportunity to impact many lives. Maury loved his association with people and is known as a positive, uplifting and high-spirited man. He enjoyed camping with his family, sporting events, biking and hiking. Maury is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Ann Ette; his three daughters; Shari & husband Mark McInaney of Keller, TX, Ronda and husband Bill McAfee of Colorado Springs, and Karla and husband Patrick King of Las Vegas, NV; six grandchildren: Meghan and Morgan McInaney, Kenzie McAfee, and Mariah, Tresdon and Nathan King. He is also survived by two brothers and three sisters; Marion and husband Chuck Doremus, Mervin Jr. wife Bonnie, Margie and husband Joe McCarthy, Greg, Valerie Holcomb and one sister-in-law Karleen Watts as well as a host of nieces, nephews and loving friends. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at Evergreen Funeral Home, 1830 E. Fountain Blvd. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2006 at Austin Bluffs Community Church, 5090 Austin Bluffs Pkwy, Colorado Springs.

AnnEtte and Family,
Our hearts go out to you as you grieve the loss of Maury. I remember your visits to us in NY as well as FL. What fun we had! Of course, Maury always reminded me of our "saxophone days" in High School. God knows our sorrow (Matt.11:28). God knows the sadness that you feel at losing one you loved so very much. May He ease your burden with His tender, loving touch! My prayers are with each of you in the days that follow.

Ann Ette

There are no words to adequately describe how I feel about your tragic loss. While I hadn't seen you and Maury since we visited you in the Springs back in '64 or '65, I have fond memories from our days in school back in the 50's.

AnnEtte and family,
Maury was one of those rare people who made you feel like one of his best friends. I will miss his unexpected phone calls and his trips to Nebraska when he would call or stop by. We shared so many ideas and it goes with out saying that he made a distinct difference in the world of Shaklee and everyone he met. He will be missed by many.

Two great guys named “Maury,” together in heaven! It makes me smile.

I have memories for a lifetime. Thank You, MER.

My wife and I met Maury through Sam and Deanna Baldwin, when we were living in Colorado Springs. It was the Shaklee connection. Maury and his family were always there for my wife Donna and I. He helped us out several times with support information for Donna about her MS problems. We visited them about 5 years ago and he and Ann Ette had to take us to the Hospital, because Donna had an episode while we were visiting them. As always the one to be ready to help in any situation. We will miss him very much.

As a fellow Shaklee member, all Shaklee folk, known to me or not, are akin to family and so I offer you my deepest sympathies in your loss.
Peace and many blessings be to you and yours, from me and mine.
Sincerely,
Mare

My sincere condolences to Maury's family at this time. I never met him but was in on more than one Shaklee call where he made himself available for those of us in the Field who benefited from the simple wisdom of his 'Ladder of Health'. It is still a tool that I use today. Thanks Maury - you will be missed not only by your birth family, but also by your Shaklee family.

Amen to all the positive thoughts people have expressed about our beloved Maury. The memories we have of Maury and you, Ann Ette, at various Shaklee functions, are treasured and priceless. One that stands out is our week together in Maui before the Shaklee Convention, and how we got matching couple outfits! Yours and Maury's were one color, and ours a different color. Phil always called Maury "the Energizer Bunny!" He said maybe Maury knew his life would be short, and that's why he lived life on "Fast forward." Someone put it well when they said we should not so much grieve that such a man has died as to rejoice that such a man has lived. So we rejoice we had the privilege of knowing and loving Maury, and join you, his family, in celebrating his life.
Love and prayers, Phil and Karla Kroeker

Friendships are glorious things. And we, like everyone else who knew them, have treasured our many years of friendship with Maury and Ann Ette. They always offered their friendship so easily and generously, and it was a joy to hear their voice on the phone or to be with them in person. Yes, Maury was the exuberant one -- the irrepressible, enthusiastic, happy-as-a-clam, alive! one who had a million innovative ideas and wanted to share them all ---- always for the good of the other person. He loved Ann Ette, he loved Shaklee and he loved life. With his own unique little chuckle and that irrepressible grin, he told us his philosophy of life in one brief sentence. “I’m so much fun, I can’t imagine life without me!” What a wonderful epitaph! That was Maury. They just don’t come along in life very often like Maury. We will miss him greatly, but we will give thanks for being blessed by his sharing part of his precious time and life with us.

Dear Ransom Family:

I felt like I knew Maury, after *only* listening to a couple of his tapes. He was so personable, that listening to a tape was truly getting to know him. I sent an e-mail and ordered the Laminate, and he was so gracious as to respond to my gushing about how great I thought his talk was. My family comes from Nebraska, as well, and got involved with Shaklee after we came to Colorado Springs, so I have looked at Maury as a friendly uncle ever since.

We will hold you in our thoughts and prayers in these coming days. They are sure to be overwhelming. Please know that even those who never met Maury will miss him.

To the Ransom Family,

Maury was a great example of an entreprenuer following his belief in helping others create a better life. I had heard of his name and stellar achievements in Shaklee, and had no idea I was sitting next to him at an event in Denver. He introduced himself to me, and my response was, "YOU'RE Maury?!?" Great moment. God Bless, he will be missed by his Shaklee family.

Ann Ette,
My sincere sympathy to you and your family as you cope with your loss. I met Maury through Shaklee and his work with The Laminate and Future Cards. He was inspirational in his positive attitude about life. If we measure the meaning of our lives by the number of lives we touch, then Maury certainly lived a life of great significance.
