Mavis Carr-Adams Obituary

Mavis Carr-Adams departed this life on February 28th at the age of 87 after a short illness. Mavis was born in Weymouth, Dorset, England and was a "Brit" through and through. Never losing her British accent her family affectionately called her the "Queen." She had made her home in Colorado Springs for the past 17 years and had lived for 43 years in Alexandria, Virginia, where she worked in the medical field. Mavis was a very special person with a quick wit and charm who touched the lives of everyone she met. A larger than life personality, who considered herself a connoisseur of fine chocolates, a representative of British Royalty, a British Historian, and an avid shopper - Target being her favorite! She had a colorful upbringing - her mother Dorothy was a prima ballerina and principal dancer, her father a Royal Navy Submarine Captain and Mavis herself studied voice, piano and ballet having been privileged to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England. Her hobbies included collecting Oriental objects of art, Lladro, Royal Doulton and knitting and she had contributed over a 1000 hand-made baby hats to the Penrose Birthing Center. Mavis was a great story teller who could regale you with stories of World War II, her family history, the accomplishments of her 3 brothers, her family and her many friends throughout the United States and Great Britain. She loved England, colorful clothes, lots of "bling" and being the center of attention. She will be greatly missed by all but especially her family whom she adored and who adored her. She is survived by her only daughter, Susan Cuddeback and son-in-law Gary. Her beloved grandchildren, Sean Peter Cuddeback, Stefanie Juliet Cuddeback, Samantha Lucero and husband Jim, great grandsons, Zachary, Dominic and Donovan and great granddaughters, Sofie, Isla and Mikayla, all of Colorado Springs and many relatives in Great Britain. Cheerio, Mom! Her family wishes to thank the staff at the Residence of Skyway Park for their loving care these past 3 years, the wonderful 5th floor medical staff of Penrose Main Hospital and Pikes Peak Hospice staff for making her final moments so special. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Mavis' name to Pikes Peak Hospice. Her ashes will be placed in the rose garden at the Shrine of Remembrance and also "home" to England. A Celebration High Tea is being planned in her honor. Online Condolences: ShrineOfRemembrance.com

I met Mavis when she was at her assisted living facility and fell in love with her immediately. I'll never forget the "royal wedding celebration" we had in the cafeteria when William and Kate got married. We even bought a tiara for Mavis which she enthusiastically wore while she did "the QE wave." Delightful, with a wonderful sense of humor and fun. She is missed.

Pat, Dave and Jan in Weymouth England send heartfelt condolences from across the waves. Pat at the age of 88 especially remembers with great fondness the schooldays that she and Mavis shared together and the good times they had in Weymouth as young girls, their life-long friendship and the nostalgic visits of latter years.
