May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. Mel , always helped people less fortunate then he was, I had the pleasure of working for him 13 yrs. I still go to Platte Floral now and then, And expect him to come into the greenhouse, just to walk among the plants. It was his place to chat for awhile and chill out. May he always walk among flowers. Ginny

Dear Dianna,

I was a temp through Add Staff and had the pleasure of working there for several years during Christmas, Valentine's Day and Mother's Day. I didn't you Mel very well but I do know he was an excellent floral designer and I also remember him bringing a young man into the back one evening and having him sit down while he offered him something hot to drink. I had the impression the young man had nowhere to go. I learned alot working there. The stories about him on here are absolutely wonderful. I had no idea how accomplished Mr.Tolbert was. I just wanted to let you know I am so sorry for your loss. God Bless you.

Aunt Di, Uncle Frank, Uncle Dutch & Uncle Vern
Sending my deepest sympathies. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you at this time of need. Uncle Cap (Mel) was the one who took care of things rather it was the flowers for my dad's funeral or touching base with my twin. I am proud to be your niece.

My wife worked for Mel for 13 years managing the greenhouse. Every time I saw him he treated me with respect and dignity. He was always kind and considerate of others. I praise Dianna for being strong enough to get through all of this and still being able to keep the business running. Dianna, my prayers are with you.

To Melvin's family, it's been a very long time since I last saw Melvin. Our families were friends and neighbors so we knew each other as teenagers and Melvin was our florist of choice when he worked at Rudy's and I was married. I watched the video of Melvin and his life, he accomplished so much in his lifetime, i'm so proud of him. Our sincere sympathy to Dianne.

Dianna.

I am profoundly saddened to hear of Mel's passing. He taught me most of what I know about business and supported and encouraged me at a time in my life when I needed it most. It was a pleasure to work for him and an honor to know him. I feel your loss.

I had the honor of knowing Mel for over 30 years. I remember when he would come to the Broadmoor Greenhouses where I worked to buy wholesale plants from us. He would so enjoy walking around with me as I showed him what we had in plants. You could just feel how happy the plants made him. After the Broadmoor greenhouses closed, I called Mr. Mel and asked him if he had a job opening. He said you can start tomorrow. And I did! While I worked at Platte, I saw Mel's generosity many times. I saw him take people under his wing over and over again. He would take someone who had no experience in design work and mold them into a talented designer in no time. Mel was the hardest working man I ever knew. I don't think he ever took a day off. And Dianna was right there beside him. It never ceased to amaze me how he and Dianna single handedly decorated the shop for open house. It was always beautiful. I've always been very fond of Mel and Dianna. His loss is a great one. And I will miss him. I would like to tell Mel to rest in peace, however, rest was not something he did! So I will just say that God will have some beautiful flower arrangements on his table everyday with Mr. Mel up there. Until we meet again friend, thank you for everything.

It is so sad ...Mel's passing.I have to tell you Diana the day Mel passed (Sunday) he came to me that night in a dream. He was bathed in an aura of white and yellow brightness. He smiled at me and thanked me for the work I did at the store and wished me well in my life. He gave me big hug and said farewell, "Don't worry about me I am fine and happy"..I awoke still feeling that hug and seeing the happiness in his face. I pray for you and your family Diana on the loss of your beloved husband...Platte Floral will live on thru his joy.

April 5, 2017

your kindness will forever be remembered, may you be at Peace in the next adventure. Thank You Mel.

Please take comfort in the words recorded in the bible by our heavenly Father at this time, "Matthew 5:4 reads... happy are those who mourn since they will be comforted."
