Melba Williams Obituary

Williams
Melba Williams
December 16, 1936
July 16, 2025

Melba Catherine Williams was born on December16, 1936, at St. Mary's Hospital in Galveston County, Texas. She led a life filled with faith, service, and love for her family and community until her unexpected passing on July 16, 2025.
At twelve, Melba began working outside the home and contributing to the family household. She had little time for leisure activities because of her many responsibilities at home; instead, she focused on academics. A proud graduate of Dunbar High School in 1954, Melba made a life dedicated to compassion and devotion. On October 21, 1958, she married her true love, Herman Williams Jr., and moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Together, they created a loving home and raised four cherished children: Herman III, Janet, Cheryl, and Michelle.
From an early age, Melba had a passion for music and service. She played the piano for church services in her Texas hometown. After relocating to Colorado, she and her husband found their spiritual home at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, joining in 1973. Over the years, Melba served her church in many roles, including as a communion steward for twelve years, as well as an usher, greeter, food pantry volunteer, and newsletter coordinator. Her warm hugs, kind spirit, and tireless dedication made everyone feel welcomed and loved.
Melba was passionate about several charities, including the American Cancer Society, and was a seventeen-year kidney cancer survivor herself. She regularly donated to Easter Seals.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Obie Hobbs Jr. and Natka Mae Ernest; her stepmother, Josephine Hobbs; and her sisters, Bettye Jean Williams and Joyce Green. She is survived by her husband, Herman Jr., and children Herman III (Joelle), Janet, Cheryl Johnson (Tyrone), and Michelle Williams-Hattaway (Jason); granddaughters Saxon and Ashlyn Johnson; step-grandchildren Amanda Saul (Seth) and Danny Carls; step-great-grandchild Mila Saul; brother-in-law Willis Victor Williams Sr.; sister Alma Little; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Melba will be remembered for her unwavering faith, warm embrace, selfless acts of kindness, and the love she poured into her family and community. She lived with dignity, grace, and joy, leaving a legacy of service and devotion.
A Celebration of Life for Melba will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 1201 Leta Drive, Colorado Springs, CO.
