Melody Burns Obituary

Melody Joyce Burns, 52, of Colorado Springs, passed away at Penrose Main Hospital on Sunday, February 8, 2015. She was born March 14, 1962 in Frederick, Oklahoma to Charles and Laverta (Ennis) Burns. She was an avid basketball and softball player. Melody earned a Bachelors Degree of Kinesiology and a Bachelors Degree of Sports Medicine from Colorado State University at Pueblo. After graduation, she travelled and worked various jobs until 2002 when she joined the Pueblo Police Department as a Patrol Officer. In 2013 she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Melody spend many years positively impacting the department with her skills as a Patrol Training Officer and Bike Patrol Instructor and Member.

Melody was a devoted wife, step-mother, sister, daughter and friend. She was proud to serve as a Police Officer. Melody was a true Coloradan and loved not only the wondrous outdoors, but was a die-hard fan of the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. She had a great affection for her four-legged companions, leaving behind her canine friend Bailey and her feline friends Charlie and Gypsy.

Surviving are her wife, Barbara, her step children Meagan Huber and Amanda Huber. She leaves behind her parents, Charles and Laverta Burns; her brother Charles "Marty" Burns and his wife, Theresa Burns, their daughter, Jamie Burns, and their sons, Aaron Cagnoni and Samuel Cagnoni; her brother Kerry Burns and his wife Laura Burns, and their son, Logan Burns; and her sister Kristy Burns, and her partner Annette Demel.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Memorial Hall, 1 City Hall Place, Pueblo. A reception will follow at the Colorado State Fairgrounds, 4-H Hall, 1001 Beulah Avenue, Pueblo.

Flowers may be sent in care of the Memorial for Sgt Melody Burns, Fire Station #1, 425 W 7th Street, Pueblo CO 81001.
