Meryl Olson Obituary

Meryl Ione Olson, formerly Meryl Piotter, age 83 and a 40-year resident of Colorado Springs, entered eternal life on February 3, 2010. She is truly loved and will be greatly missed by all who have known her. Meryl was born May 30, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, to Martin and Clara Olson. She graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois in 1943, where she excelled in girls' track and field events. As a young woman one of her favorite activities was dancing to the Big Band music of the 1940s. After working for several years in the Chicago area, she moved with her parents and sister to Spokane, Washington, where she married Vernon Piotter in 1949. As an Air Force wife and homemaker, Meryl lived in Washington, Montana, and Nebraska before settling permanently in Colorado Springs. She was active in the Officers Wives Club and the Gray Ladies hospital volunteer program, and enjoyed water skiing, horseback riding, and snow skiing. In Colorado Springs, she was a longtime Amway distributor and was employed for several years in customer service at Current, Inc. The mountains and the bright blue Colorado sky were dear to Meryl's heart. She also greatly enjoyed her frequent visits to The Margarita at Pine Creek with her family & friends. Meryl is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl Pixley and Laura Augustine, both of Colorado Springs; her son, Alison Piotter, of Fairfax Station, VA; her sister, Carol Lytle, of Dana, NC; her granddaughter, Natalie Ronollo, of Charlottesville, VA; her niece Jackie Gonzalez and nephew Jerry Lytle, both of Miami, FL; and her former husband, Vernon Piotter, of Colorado Springs. Meryl's extended family includes an additional five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Meryl will be remembered best by all who knew her as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, completely dedicated to her children and to her young granddaughter. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at First Lutheran Church, 1515 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Meryl's name to First Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 1515 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80907.
