Shari,
When I heard of Mike going home to be with Jesus...my heart broke in two for you and the kids. I was flooded with memories of you and Mike as we were in the young couples together at FWC. I loved you both so much...you both filled our group with laughter and joy. Each of you always smiling and joking! The other thing that stuck out in my memory, was how very in love you were. I attened the funeral with Elissa and it was amazing to see the impact that Mike had on so many people. He will be so missed. I wanted to hug you and tell you I loved you...but also did not want to overwhelm you...you were surrouned by so many people. I hugged her dad and passed our love to him. I am praying for you daily. Please contact me anytime if you need anything at all. I live in springs now. FWC has our info. Love you Shari

Dear Builta Family,

During this very difficult time, I pray that your friends and family will help you to heal, and that you will cherish your memories. My family suffered an unexpected loss this summer as well, and it was remembering the joyful times with my loved one that has helped me to heal.

Brittani,
You know where to find me if you need anything.

Mike,

I can't even begin to wrap my head around the fact that you are gone. The impact you have had on people both on a professional level and personal level are tremendous. I'm going to miss your goofiness and your "happy go lucky" demeanor even when things weren't so great. I'm especially going to miss hearing about all of the Builta/Evans Adventures! I don't know what he's going to do without you, Mike. I just know that a part of him went with you. You were a great cop and one of the few decent people left in this world. You'll be sorely missed!

After reading officer Builta's obituary, it's easy to understand that he was surrounded by people who really loved him. I hope his children will take solace in knowing that their dad was a great man. Thanks for serving our community.

Mike,

I love you so much. You were so much more than a friend and partner to me. You were my 2nd brother who I always looked forward to seeing on and off duty. I can't believe you are gone from this world. I can still see your face and hear your words. I know when St. Peter opens the gates for you and asked, "How are you today?" You can honestly say that your are doing, "Excellent!"

I miss you Old Man!

Mike...I don't even know where to start. Scott is going to miss you, as will I. I know we had our ups and downs, but I loved you, too! Scott is planning to take your place with Jason to Sturgis this year. I know you will be with him in spirit next year, too, when he makes the trip to see the Redwoods out in California. You guys spent so much time planning that trip. Your beers are still in the frig, too. We'll make a toast to you when we sit in your chair out on the back deck. I'll miss you saying "Dude" before you begin every story, too. I love you man!

To Mr. Builta's Family:

I had the pleasure of meeting Officer Builta on a ride-along in the summer of 2006. I spent the whole shift with him and found him to be very friendly and accommodating. I observed him to be very compassionate, professional and helpful to every person he contacted. He did everything he could to resolve the issues of everyone involved on every call. It was a great experience, and he went out of his way to show me all the aspects of his duties. He even joked that he wished it was busier so he could show me more about the job. I am grateful to have spent a shift observing such a wonderful officer.

While I never had the opportunity to know Officer Builta on a personal level, I know that he was a tremendous asset to the Colorado Springs Police Department and to every citizen he served.
