MICHAEL COTTON Obituary

Michael Allen Cotton February 19, 1967 -- October 4, 2008 Michael Allen Cotton was born and raised in Colorado Springs. He graduated from Wasson High School in 1985 and then joined the US Marine Corps. He was medically retired from the Corps in 1996 after his diagnosis of brain cancer. While in the Marine Corp, he served tours in California, Oahu, and Virginia. After his retirement, he resided in Dallas, Texas area. Michael was the oldest son of Perry and Karleen Cotton and was preceded in death by his father in 2002. He is survived by his beloved son, Zacary "Zac"; his mother; his brother, Richard; his sister, Margie Ainsworth and her husband Jake. He also
left behind his beloved nephews, Alex and Ian; nieces, Erica and Brenna; his special cousin, Karen Rhodes; many other cousins, aunts and uncles and many many dear friends. His grandparents were also waiting for him in heaven. Michael loved life and never knew a stranger. His proudest moment was the birth of his son, who became his best friend and buddy. His favorite hobbies included tropical fish, reptiles, animals of any kind and flowers. He always had the prettiest flowers and plants in the neighborhood. After his retirement, he learned many trades and put his new-found skills to good use. He read the Bible almost daily and had strong faith in the Lord. He will be missed by his friends at the Cowboy Church of Ellis County in Texas. He never talked or worried about his illness, but lived each day to the fullest. His strength was amazing and admired by many. He loved and enjoyed his friends so much and never lost touch with them, especially his best friend, David Stannard. His kindness and out-going personality was loved by all. May he rest peacefully now. Blessing to Zac, Karleen and all of Mike's family.

My heart aches at hearing of Mike's death, but I know he is smiling down on us all from Heaven. Mike was a great friend that I loved dearly. God brought our lives together when Mike and Zac joined Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Glenn Heights, TX. Mike's work in the church construction was a labor of love for his Lord. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. Mike was a great father and I admired him for taking the responsibility as a single father. My life was blessed by the friendship of Mike and Zac. I will miss his laughter and his smile.

Dear Karleen and Zac,
Bob and I are so sorry for your loss, but know Mike is lighting up heaven. It will be beautiful where he is because I know he will be planting flowers, trees, and shrubbery, just like he did on our street when we were neighbors. He had a beautiful yard and made us proud. His yard was his pride and joy, but Zac was the highlight of his life, and he loved him dearly. We will cherish our memories of him and his courage set a good example for all of us. May God be with you.

Mike was always a faithful friend. He attended church with us at Lord of Life Lutheran. We had lots of family fun days with his family and our church family at our pool parties in Desoto. Mike helped our church by laying the ceramic tiles and helped the men in building the Lutheran church on Ovilla Road in Glenn Heights. He was always there when you needed him.
I heard once that he also was Parent of the Year with the PTA in Waxahachie. He was dedicated to bringing his son up the best he knew how. I wasn't surprised. Lori & Mike Stricker, Desoto, Texas

To all of Mike's family and son Zac: There really are no words to describe what a wonderful person and what great memories we all have of Mike. I'm sad that I did not stay in touch, but am so greatful for the smiles that his memory puts on my face. High school would have not been the same without Mike there to brighten up the room with is humor. God love him with all the rest of us. Thanks for the memorable friendship Mike!

The foundation of my friendship with Mike was a strong mix of admiration, respect, fun, and humor. Our adult lives included countless recaps of childhood and teenage memories. I never tired of laughing with Mike for hours on end. Mike was packed and in his car heading home from Texas just hours after hearing of my late wife Krista's passing two years ago. I'll never forget his kindness and support. Love you Amigo!

Dear Karleen and Margie,

My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. Most assuredly, I say to
you that you will weep and
lament, but the world will
rejoice; and you will be
sorrowful, but your sorrow will
be turned to joy—John 16:20

God bless you, Eloise
