Michael Dooher Obituary

Our Hero, Colonel Michael Dooher, is now soaring with the eagles. He was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Mike was a fighter pilot in the RAF, joining at age 17. By 19 he was in the Royal Canadian Armed Forces, flying Spitfires, B-24s, Liberators, CF100's, T-Birds and CF-101 Voodoos. Mike and his family were transferred to Colorado Springs in 1971 where he became the Canadian Commander in Chief at NORAD. He retired from the service in 1978 to pursue his love of skiing by becoming a ski instructor in Vail until the tender age of 78. Afterwards he enjoyed many more winters on the slopes, every fall at the Air Force football games, and summers on the Academy golf course.

Mike will be deeply missed by his children: Dani (Bill), Nanaimo, BC; Loretta Anne (Reg), Brantford, ON; Patti (Joe), Colorado Springs; Michael (Shannon) Langley, BC; Bob (Sue), Colorado Springs; Sean (Mina), Nanaimo, BC; Theresa (Ken), Aurora, CO; and Chris, Colorado Springs; by his 15 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; many family and friends; and especially by those lucky enough to call him friend. Mike was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Eunice nee Saya, his sisters Margaret and Kay, and brother Edward. He's survived by his sister Betty Woods, and brothers Frank and James Dooher, all of Ottawa.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. A second service will be held in Ottawa at a later date.

Rest in piece Michael. Lean back, take those controls and teach those Angles how to fly.... Joanne Mitchell (long time friend of your wonderful sister Betty)

I first knew Mike in Cold Lake where we formed the first members of 433 Squadron on CF100's. Memories are sweet
So line it it up Mike, turn off the brakes, full power, burners if you have them and lets go flying.

God's blessings to you all in this time of both sadness and cherished memories. He must have done a great job as a role model for his children - for this I am grateful. I hope fond memories of his glory years will shine through in the hearts and minds of his family and loved ones! I liked learning about him in your tribute. I am sure he appreciated the care given to him these last several years.

To the beloved Dooher family. My heart is saddened at the loss of your beloved patriarch. He was an honorable man who gave his heart to two countries, many kids, and to his communities is service that is beyond measure. He is now amongst the eagles in Heaven with the Maple Leaf and the Stars and Stripes, adorned with skies, hockey skates, and a legacy of a wonderful family to carry out his work on earth!
