Michael Duhamel Obituary

Mar. 20, 1983-Mar. 29, 2006. Senior Airman (E-4) Michael Scott Duhamel, 23, departed this life, suddenly, March 29, 2006 at Minot Air Force Base, N.D. Michael was born March 20, 1983 in Colorado Springs. He leaves behind his mother, Susanne M. Halcomb (Timothy); father, Lee A. Duhamel; sister, Morgan L. Duhamel; fraternal grandparents, Nancy L. and Roy Duhamel of Jefferson City, MO.; maternal grandparents, Ann and Charles Maerten; step-grandparents, Helen M. and Leroy E. Halcomb of Colorado Springs; aunts; uncles; cousins; and countless friends. Michael attended Stratton Meadows Elementary, Wilson Elementary, Irving Middle School, and was a 2001 graduate of Mitchell High School. He had been formerly employed at the Base Exchange at Peterson Air Force Base in various capacities and especially loved his work in "The Power Zone", the electronics department. He also worked at Atmel Corp. before entering in the United States Air Force on April 29, 2003. He completed Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base, TX. He went on to Security Forces Training at Lackland and graduated September 4, 2003. He was promoted to Airman First Class and assigned to the 91st Security Forces Group, Air Force Space Command Minot Air Force Base, N.D. Michael rapidly completed all required training and became proficient in all duties. He was promoted to Senior Airman six months ahead of his contemporaries. His job knowledge, timely execution of all duties and outstanding leadership skills were instrumental in his units above average passing grades in "no-notice" inspections from higher headquarters. His performance helped ensure the groups attaining "Best Security Force in all Air Force". His duties included, but were not limited to, physical security of all nuclear unmanned launch facilities, manned control areas, convoy duties transporting nuclear arms and training of newly assigned personnel. His duty at the time of his passing was Personnel Reliability Program Monitor, which assured all personnel were fit for duty, mentally and physically. He furthered his college education, being just two classes short of an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement. Michael loved golf, camping, darts, pool, his friends, family and life. He wore the uniform with unequaled pride, believed 110% in what he was doing, and was a dedicated professional to his job, unit and the United States Air Force. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2006 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance. Inurnment will be private. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to ENT Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 15819, Colorado Springs, CO., 80935-5819 to the "Memorial Fund of Michael Duhamel". WE SALUTE YOU MICHAEL! HUAA!

So sorry for your loss. Michael seemed like a very respectful man. I was able to look this up after my Grandmother gave me his info, Ruth Swaney. I was about to head to my first duty station as Security Forces back in 2009 when my grandmother gave me a few stripes and patches from Duhamel's uniform. She explained to me a bit of his story and that Chuck and Ann had given her the items to give to me. Ruth passed away a year ago and I know she would have wanted me to reach out to Michaels family and give my condolences. RIP SF Brother.

Mike... so long ago you were my best friend, my confidant, and for a short time a boyfriend - which we quickly decided was a terrible idea and laughed about it. Going to different high schools separated us, but I have thought of you fondly and often over the years, wondering how you were doing, and what you were doing. Only today did I learn that you were no longer physically with us, but memories of you will always be a cause to smile, as they are all fond.

October 31, 2011

Ben Lee and I were there that sad day at the dining facility with you. I will never forget you or that day. You were my PRP Monitor and you did so much for us! RIP Duhamel!!

I think of you pretty much everyday. I even still expect the phone to ring and you on the other end making some joke. I know you are in a better place, but sometimes I am selfish and wish you were here. Thank You for the countless great memories you left. I hope you are up there ripping stuff up on your dream motorcycle that you unloaded from some dream truck you have found. Miss you daily. To all your family and friends left here thinking of you too, Happy Holidays.

Jeff and I were just talking about the time when you and Andy went into the services. Jeff said he was so glad you went with us when Andy joined the Army as it made the ride back home without Andy so much easier. I had forgotten you had gone into the Air Force on my birthday. But will drink a toast to you on all the birthdays I have left.

Sue, Lee & Morgan,

I am so sad for the passing of Michael. He, as all of you have been a bright spot in my life. I still remember when my new car would not start in front of the house. He said "Di, isn't that a new car?" My response was "Yes, it it." His response was "Well, its not a very good car if it will not start." He always took time for a smile and some conversation.

Sending hugs, caring and prayers your way to help you get through this very devastating time.
