Michael Gemmill Obituary

Mike was born in Colorado Springs to David and Stella (Thomas) Gemmill. A long-time resident of Leadville, Colorado, he had worked 35 years for the Climax Molybdenum mine in Climax, Colorado. Mike's interests included Colorado mining history, including the narrow gauge railroads and the minerals which influenced the state's mining industry. Mike was a true Colorado native with his love of the mountains and the fishing, hiking and mountain biking opportunities they provide. The mountains also gave him many opportunities to pursue the photography of scenery and wildlife. He is survived by his sister Sandra (Gemmill) Skogen of Gurnee, Illinois, his niece Katelyn Skogen and nephew Gordan Skogen also of Gurnee, Illinois, his step mother Peggy Papin-Gemmill of Colorado Springs, and step siblings Gary and Sheri Papin of Drury, Missouri. He is preceded in death by his parents. Memorial Service 3:00pm, Monday, September 24, 2012 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Private interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

All,
Mike was loved by all at Climax and he annd I were partners for several years. Me and Gordan not only shared the same name but we shared tthe same birthday and Mike got a big kick out of that! He was a great employee and one of the best water technicians we ever had. He always wanted a real water plant to run and before he retired he became the lead water tech for the new water treatment plant that we built.
If we had known about the services sooner we would have sent a contingency of folks to show our respects and we are truly saddened we missed his services but he knows we have been thinking about him and talking about every day since his passing. I know he got a lot of use out of his video camera we bought for him as a retiremnt gift.
He was a part of the Climax family and we loved him like a brother.
May he rest in peace and he will be happiest if there is a water treatment plant in heaven for him to operate!
Sincerely,
Gordon Stinnett and the Climax brothers and sisters.
