Michael Lewis Obituary

Michael C. Lewis, age 63, a resident of Colorado Springs since 2001 and previously of Tehachapi, California, passed away on December 8, 2006 at a local hospital. He was a retired technical manual writer for the U.S. Government. Michael Coy Lewis was born January 7, 1943 in Kansas City to Mr. Ethel "Lew" and Annabelle (Bogart) Lewis. He loved and excelled at academics, eventually garnering five college degrees; a B.A. in math, a B.A. in history, a Masters in history, a Masters in International Relations, and an A.B.D. in International Relations. His education allowed him to pursue his dream of teaching where he held positions at University of Washington and University of Southern California and Los Angeles City College where he was a professor, lecturing in Russian History. He married Susan Lewis on April 21, 1968. He went to work for the U.S. Government as a tech manual writer and took up more studies and writing in his vocation of raising thoroughbred race horses. Everyone who knew him used the same one word to describe him. He was kind. He is survived by his wife Susan of Colorado Springs, his brother Ken (wife, Dodie) Lewis of Emmett, Idaho, his sister Barbara (husband, Clancy) Welch of Coos Bay, Oregon, several nieces and nephews, extended family members and all who knew him and especially his beloved church family at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2006 at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4125 Constitution Avenue, Colorado Springs. A reception will follow services at the church. Memorials may be made in Michael's name to Holy Cross Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

December 21, 2006

My father, Franklin Donald Lewis Sr. was a cousin of Michael's. Unfortunately, I never met Michael or his parents, but wish I had. My father's parents were Roger and Hazel Lewis, and they lived in Canton Mississippi.

Anyway, I pray for all Michael's surving family members.

God Bless,

Franklin "Frank" D. Lewis Jr.

Michael, I will always be grateful for your unquestioning support one traumatic night over 25 years ago. "Kind" is too small a word. You went well above and beyond what a sister-in-law could expect. It is a comfort to know that you are now in the arms of our Lord and we will meet again in Heaven.
