Michael Mulligan Obituary

1960-2008. Dr. Michael P. Mulligan, age 47, of Broomfield, Colorado died Tuesday, April 15, 2008 in a hiking accident in Boulder Canyon. He was the son of Dr. Patrick and Joan Mulligan of Colorado Springs and brother of Molly Mulligan of Manitou Springs and Dr. Mark Mulligan of Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Mulligan was born at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland in 1960. He graduated as valedictorian and a National Merit Scholar at Wichita Falls High School, Texas in 1978. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in pre-professional studies at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana where he graduated with high honors in 1982. In 1986 he obtained his M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas where he received the best family practice student award. During his family medicine residency at the University of Utah he worked in Alaska and Kenya. He and his wife Nancy volunteered as medical missionaries in Tanzania for six months in 1989 before settling in Broomfield. He obtained added qualifications to his family medicine board certification in sports and adolescent medicine. Over the years he practiced in several medical settings and most recently provided healthcare in rural and underserved areas. Dr. Mulligan loved Colorado outdoor sports. He and his wife Nancy rode for 15 consecutive years in the Courage Classic Bike Ride benefiting the Children's Hospital Foundation, and the last few years their sons joined them. His many talents included art, music, and computers. Mike lived life passionately and approached the world with artist's eyes as well as an open, compassionate, loving heart. His greatest love was for his family. He is survived by his wife Dr. Nancy Ford Mulligan, DPT whom he married in 1989, and three children, Ford, Brennan, and Gwen, aged 15, 12, and 10.

My sincere condolences to the Mulligan family.

I worked with Michael at PruCare ('95-98) and at Kaiser Permanente. I always liked Michael and he was always open to " curbside consults" and sharing his knowledge with other physician colleagues. Although I did not have the pleasure of working with him closely in the last several years, I can imagine how colossal his loss must mean to family and community alike.
