Michael Sweet Obituary

Michael Sweet joined our heavenly Father on Sunday, February 28, 2010. He was born October 9, 1929 in Kalusz, Poland. During the invasion of Poland, he and his family were brutally removed from their home and interred in a forced labor camp in Siberia, Russia. They endured unimaginable hardships, losing many family members. Michael, as one of the fortunate few, was later liberated with General Sikorski's help. He then proudly served with Polish and British combat forces during WWII. He immigrated to the United States in 1955 and was drafted into the US Army retiring as Master Sergeant after 20 distinguished years of service. His tours of duty included Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. He gallantly served one combat tour with the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam. As soldiers during WWII, Michael and an older brother's journeys took them through such countries as Iran, Iraq, Israel and Egypt. After WWII as a young man, Michael was finally reunited with his family in England. In 1954 Michael married the love of his life Antonina (Tabis), in Chipping Campden, England. His loving wife of 55 years survives and deeply mourns his passing. He is also survived by his daughter Krystyna (Trzos) her husband Thaddeus, granddaughters Stephany and Katherine; son Edward and granddaughter Madeline; and son Richard, who miss him profoundly. Additionally, he is survived by numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins around the world. His parents and several siblings preceded him in death. Visitation is from 4 - 6 p.m this evening followed by a Rosary at Dove-Witt Funeral Home, 6630 South Highway 85-87, Fountain. A Catholic Mass will be held for Michael Thursday, 10:00 am at St. Dominic's, 565 Marquette Drive, in Security. Burial with full military honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

A phenomenal person, memories of you will always make me smile! We called you "Uncle", but as cousin to our Dad Alex, you are cousin to us as well. The best cousin! Uncle Mike - I know you now soar with the eagles, in peace and love! I will miss you and I send my love to your family. --Lita

I'm going to miss you so much, Grandad. You are a fighter. You're the strongest person I've ever met, and probably ever will meet. I'm so proud that I am able to call you my Grandfather. Seventeen years with you was no where near enough. But I know that I will see you again someday. And we'll have so much fun together. We won't have to worry about anything. I can't wait for that day. I love you forever and always Grandad. You're my hero.

Dad,
You are and always were my hero. I am so proud that you are my father and know that you will always be with me. I will think of you always. The family misses you so much. We know you are in heaven now and will watch over us all our days. Dad, thank you for being such an incredible man, thank you for being my father. I love you so much and look forward to the day when we can all be together again.
