Michael Zachariah Obituary

Michael Zachariah was born on February 14, 1957. He unexpectedly died of a heart attack while mountain biking near Mt Herman on September 17, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Lou Ann; daughters: Sara and Anna; his mother, Rita; as well as his brother, Steve and his family. Mike's mother and brother reside in Lafayette, Indiana. Mike worked as a design engineer for Intel here in Colorado Springs. Always an adoring husband, dedicated father, and talented engineer, Mike's love of the outdoors was a constant force in his life, a devotion to the enjoyment of the natural beauty in the world that will be carried on by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the American Heart Association or to the charity of your choice. A Celebration of Mike's Life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21 at the Pinecrest, just off Greeley Blvd in Palmer Lake.

Dear Anna & family,

I am so sorry to hear of your great and untimely loss. I know how dear your father was to you Anna and I know his memory will bring you much peace. Rest assured that his legacy will go on with you and your sister. Knowing you and your strengths, I know he must have been very proud of you. His presence will live on as you love and remember all that he was and is to you. Take care of yourself and of your family - I am only a phone call away! Love, Barb

Dear LouAnn, Sara & Anna -

My words cannot express how sorry we are to hear this sad news. Mike leaves us with such good memories. We have shared so many beautiful things with your family. The majestic mountains of Colorado, the beautiful green country of England, the busy city of London, the quaint village of Hampstead, and Rugen...quite possibly the best dog in the world. Please know that we think of you often and will keep all these memories in our hearts forever. Life has taken us farther and farther away from 'home', but we will keep in touch. God bless you at this hard time, Kristin

Mike and I worked together during FMI's first years in Colorado Springs. I was always impressed that he had such a serious commitment to work and family while retaining that special spark or mischief and humor. My sincere best wishes are extended to his family and close friends. He was a truly good guy.

LouAnn, Anna and Sara,

I was at a loss for words last week at the memorial. I didn't want to say the same thing that you heard time and time again from everyone. Even though Mike and I were seperated by 18 years it still doesn't erase the fact that we were still cousins. Granted, I wasn't as close to him as I wish I could have been, and living so close to you should have helped out; but it didn't. This is a regret that I will have to live with for the rest of my life. The last I saw him was at our wedding. It meant a lot to us to have your family there and even though Mike and I had a short conversation, it still meant a lot. If you ever need anything please do not hesitate to call. I wish you all the best in the future.

A welcoming smile and a light hearted laugh was Mike's calling card. Had the pleasure of having Mike as a Design Manager at Intel and a colleague at FMI for 8 years. His sudden departure was shocking to say the least and he will be deeply missed by us all.

LouAnn, Anna, and Sara,

Jim and I were so sad to hear of your loss. The time we shared with Mike and you during our daughters college years are precious memories now. We enjoyed his company and sense of humor. He was a wonderful dad. Our deepest sympathy to your family from ours.

LouAnn and girls .... I send my deepest sympathy at your loss. I met Mike at Purdue in the EET department, and it was Mike who invited me to Kneale House the first time, where I have met so many of my life long friends. We have spoken of him a lot the last few days. Coincidentally, I recently saw a picture in a photo album of Sara as she came home from the hospital at her birth, with a stuffed Hippo some of us gave her, and I thought of your family with warm memories. I know that God has blessed many of us with Mike, and we will all see him soon.

God's blessings to you.

This is very sad news for us all.

My time at FMI (83-89) was a wondrous period in my life and Mike was a terrific part of that. I felt that he, like many others were actually more friend than colleague. We shared knowledge from our respective fields enabling us both to grow and expand our collective range of capabilities, and I felt that I got more from working with Mike and my other FMI friends than I could repay.

Mike will live on in my memories of great times and shared events, like putting up our own Shell No N Pest strips, The RAM/CART Victory barbecue at his house, technical trips and discussions on tradeoffs between design and implementation, etc..

Mike was an excellent engineer and friend. It's unfortunate we never got to link up in the intervening years.,

Dearest LouAnn, Sara & Anna,

We've never met, however Mike and I go back many years. He was a competent engineer and an outstanding person. Mike had a great memory. He could recall the smallest details of situations we had been in years before. We could always pick up from wherever we left off. Although I haven't seen him in a while, I truely regret that he is no longer with us. Please know that my prayers are with you and Mike.

The Zachariah Family: I retired in 2000 and most of the folks with whom I worked at FMI have slipped into the dark abyss of my mind. One look at Mike's photo brought him back to spend a day of memories with me. He was quite a guy . . . a real sweetheart to all of us. We've been blest.

I too had the pleasure of working with Mike while he was at FMI. Not only was he an excellent engineer and project leader, but he was so easy to get along with. His perspective was one of teamwork and his demeanor was always friendly. May his soul RIP. Lazarus.

Lou Ann,

I was so shocked when I got the call from Carla telling me about Mike. I can't believe it. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. The last time we saw each other was at the 20th class reunion and he looked the same as always and had that wonderful smile that use to make us all melt. He will be greatly missed by all. Love, Penny

It is with much sadness that I send my condolences to you, Lou Ann, Sara and Anna. As a result of meeting and becoming friends with Mike at Purdue in the mid 70s, I endured a few “all nighter” study marathons, experienced my first trip to Florida to spend Christmas with his family and was privileged to be involved for the first time as a member of a wedding party on that special day you two were married. Our family trip to Colorado 4 years ago to visit you both is a fond and lasting memory. His kind and gentle spirit will not be forgotten.

Lou Ann, Sara and Anna,

We were shocked and saddened to learn of Mike's death. I'm sorry we were unable to travel to attend the service. Although we moved away many years ago, we hold many fond memories that we will cherish. Mike's life has touched many and we all are better as a result of his actions. We will keep Mike in our hearts and you and the girls in our thoughts and prayers.

Mike and I were in the same High School class. I must have seen him last at age 18. He was a fine young man and a great high school athlete. I wish I'd known he lived in Monument, I would have gotten in touch.

I heard about the memorial service too late. Wish I could have gone.

I'm sorry, Lou Ann

Mike and I met at FMI. He was my boss. I have the fondest memories of Mike and loved to see him. I will always remember his pleasant manner and was proud to be his associate. He was a bright and talented engineer and a good friend. He was liked by all who he came in contact with. My deepest sympathies to his family.

Lahey Bill

I had the priviledge of knowing Mike for over 15 years. Mike was one of the first engineers that I worked w/ at FMI and I eventually reported to Mike at FMI/Intel. Mike was one of the easiest going persons I knew. I learned a great deal from Mike, especially over the past few years that I traveled with him. Near our transition from Ford to Intel, Mike suggested we get a group picture by a highly recommended photographer. The photographer was of course Lou Ann(Mike's wife), but she oly agreed to take the picture if we "posed nude".

Mike will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
