Michele Leonard Obituary

Michele Lee Leonard, 29 years, was born normal on June 19, 1975. At six months, she started having seizures and was diagnosed with a severe neurological disorder. She never developed beyond two years mentally, but was always happy and smiling and never complained. Although she couldn't speak; her eyes spoke volumes. She was a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs and an inspiration to everyone who knew and loved her. She is survived by her mother, Faye Leonard; her grandfather, Bud Lawrence of Clayton, New Mexico; and her step-father, Max Goodhart; and his wonderful extended family who opened their hearts to Michele and her mother. She has three aunts, and an uncle from her father's side, but was preceded in death by Michael C. Leonard, her father. She has great aunts and uncles and numerous cousins. She has many friends in the medical, health and community services without whose support we could not have managed and we are grateful for them. We are at peace knowing that Michele was God's special child, and is now dancing and singing with the angels. Funeral services will be held today, May 24, 2005, at Swan Law Funeral Home, at 2:00 p.m. Contributions may be made to Mosaic (the community based agency for handicapped adults), 1785 Academy Blvd., Ste. 127, Colorado Springs, CO, 80909.

Dear Faye,

Our deepest heartfelt sympathy goes out to you at this time. We only met Michelle once and it was many years ago at the circus. What a beautiful child! Rip's mother, Joan, talked so much about you and Michelle before Joan got sick. She told us such nice things about you both and some of the challenges you were facing. It was obvious that you both were dear to her heart. Thank you for being an inspiration to me as a young mother of a disabled child myself. I always admired you from afar and it would have been nice to know you and Michelle better. With great respect and admiration, Patti and Rip Verniero and Chris Jasewicz

Faye - we saw the obituary too late to attend the service for dear Michele. It's been so very long since we've seen you, or had any news. We've dropped the ball in terms of staying in touch and this was a sad way to receive news. Our hearts go out to you dear lady, you were a one of a kind mother to Michele and now that she understands more than any of us do, she must treasure you in a deeper, fuller way than we can imagine! What a joyful day it will be when the two of you are reunited in the fullness of perfect health and love, and we believe from the bottom of our hearts that that day will come. We would love to see and talk with you as soon as possible (548-9592).

With much love,

Jim & Lucia Rayburn

Faye, I think of you and Michele every day as I drive by the house on Mesa Grande. God truly has a special angel now. How special of a Mother you were to her! I have fond memories of her riding my bus and I also think of the time that you went to the Bronco game with us. May God comfort you and your family during this time. Love, Cheri
