I'm Jerry Geiger, Former Pro Baseball player and General Engineering Contractor in Las Vegas Nevada. Mike Henry was a close family friend. When I was 4 year's old he brought Rosey Grier and Decon Jones to our house to stay in Vegas. They took me back to L,A. And had a uniform made for Mr and made me honerary water boy for the Rams. Then my wife and I went to his house on our honeymoon and Bert Reynolds was there and made us Breakfast! They were getting ready to go back east and film the 1st Smokey and the Bandit! Also he put us on as contestants in celebrity sweepstakes! Mike was a great man! He always had time for friends and kids! I just found out that he passed away. Godbless his family! Please respond that you received this message.

I would like to express belated condolences to Mike's family. My brother-in-law was best friends with Mike back in the day, growing up together in California. I had the pleasure of meeting Mike as well, probably in 1967(?). I was just informed of his passing & am truly heartbroken as I feel as if I've known him personally through the years through stories told to me from my brother-in-law. RIP, Mike.

My first memory of Mike Henry is as a kid and seeing him on the movie poster for Tarzan and Valley of Gold in front of a movie theatre on Pacific Blvd. in Huntington Park. This was in 1966, the same year that another actor, Ron Ely, played Edgar Rice Burroughs' famed hero on television. Both actors portrayals were a far cry from Johnny Weismuller's "Me Tarzan, You Jane" sub-literate ape-man of years past. Henry's version was a modern 60's hero, an articulate Tarzan, and was undoubtably the fittest actor to ever play the role. A couple of years later a chapter in Gabe Esso's book Tarzan of the Movies that discussed Mike Henry was called, "Body by Michelangelo." The book also included a photo of a sad Mike with a blistered chin after that chip bite...ouch!
A couple of years later, when I was in Bell High School, a teacher had an autographed photo of Mike in his Rams uniform handing on a wall. It turned out that years earlier he had been Mike's teacher! I had no idea that the guy who played Tarzan in three films had once lived in my town and gone to my school!
Years later--in 1988--I'm sitting in a grandstand on Atlantic Avenue in the City of Bell, watching an Easter parade. It's a modest, small town affair with a marching band and some local dignitaries...and who suddenly appears, seated on the back of a convertible, with his name on a sign taped to the side? It's Mike Henry! The local kid made good, film hero world-wide star has come home!
As he slowly drove past, waving to the crowd, I shouted out, "BEST TARZAN EVER !!" He heard me, and looked up, startled and pleased at the recognition. And after he moved past, he turned around and looked back, as if he wondered, "Who was that? Was it someone I know?"
No, it was just me, Mike. A fan. I think I might have made his day.
In the Bell High cafeteria there is a mural of famous alumni for students to admire and be inspired by. Among them are world famous musicians like Larry Knechtel and Stan Kenton. And yes, there's a painting honoring Mike Henry--a football pro with the L.A. Rams, and a big actor who dominated his time on the big screen as the Best Tarzan ever.

Mike was a great guy! He used to come into our Curries Ice Cream store on Pass Avenue in Burbank in the early '60s, and would always have a cheerful presence, and friendly comment to say. I recall him expressing the feeling of playing in sub-zero weather after a game in the Midwest, just before he got the role of Tarzan. He likened it to falling onto concrete! I also recall that he used his Linebacker skills in the filming of one scene in Mexico! I am so sorry to have seen his passing this year! My family gave me a "StoryWorth" subscription for a year, which is a year's worth of questions posed weekly for the year. The results are shared with the sponsors and after the year is up, a bound book is created for each to have for posterity. The question for this week was "Which famous persons have you known and how did you get to know them?" It was in that research that I discovered Mike's passing. My deepest condolences to all in his family! I hope you can recover from your deep sorrow, and I am praying for you to do so!

Mike was incredibly handsome and has left a legacy of acting we will have the ability to remember.
My father and I enjoyed watching all the Tarzan series, but I really remember Mike from MASH; but cried when I saw the movie The Green Berets. I was a little kid and it was such a painful movie to watch to see my heroes pass before my eyes.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mr. Henry's death. He was a hero of mine as a kid because he was Tarzan! He was an awesome Tarzan and one of the most athletic, agile Tarzans ever on film! He seemed like a very nice man with a good heart in the right place. I hope his last years were not too stressful for him. My condolences to his family and friends. He was a unique man! God bless him.
