Mildred Ausec Obituary

Mildred was born in Rolla, Kansas and raised in the dust bowl days of Oklahoma. She was one of twelve children, born to Lola (Sims) and William A. Woolsey. Her wit and humor were always a part of the stories she would share about those Oklahoma days. She spent nearly a year in Arco, Idaho where she graduated from High School in 1939. She often spoke about bareback riding and dispatching rattlesnakes. Relocating back to Colorado Springs, at age 22, she took a position with a relatively new company, Mountain Bell as it became known, where she would be employed as a switchboard operator for over forty years. Upon retiring, Mickey, as she preferred to be called, began to travel. She cruised to Rio DeJaneiro with a Jim Irwin (Apollo 15) Troupe, and spoke fondly of visits to Israel where she once slipped away from the group with a friend and took a swim in the Dead Sea. Mickey possessed a remarkable compassion for children suffering here and throughout the world. A devoted Christian and Prayer Warrior, she also was a most generous supporter of the Navigators, Chuck Colson's Angel Tree Ministry, and Billy Graham's work. She studied psychology and studied people, with a rare and gifted intuition. She was an avid gardener who often called CSU Extension regarding plants and their care. Mickey is survived by her sisters: Norma Sims, Donelle Woolsey, Maxine Reynolds, Barbara Carter, Gloria Chiaro, Dee Gray and Florence Clark. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Larry B. Ausec; her brother, Archie Woolsey; her sisters: Velda Birt, Wilma Atherton, Rosemary Carmack; and her husband, John Ausec. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful Chapel. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials in her name may be made to Franklin Graham's “Samaritan's Purse Ministry for the World's Children.
