Mildred Carter, 97, passed away at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO on June 29, 2023. Millie was born June 21, 1926, in Clifton, NJ to Shuit Sisco and Jennie (Wisse) Sisco who are deceased. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Patrick Carter, III. She is survived by two sons; John Patrick IV (Mary Kaye) of Penrose, CO, and Daniel Burton (Tiffany) of Santa Barbara, CA; a daughter, Suzanne Olmsted (Rae) of West Richland, WA; five grand children, Johnnie, Caleb (Janean), David, Ashlyn and Ava, two step grandchildren, Jarret and Jesse, and two step great grandchildren.
Millie grew up on her dad's dairy farm. She was a dreamer and a handful for her parents. At the suggestion of their minister, her parents broke with tradition and allowed Millie to attend Wheaton College in Illinois. While at Wheaton, Millie joined a Christian organization called Young Life, which began a lifelong passion of sharing the wonderful love and redemption that Jesus freely offers. After volunteering at clubs, attending camp at Star Ranch near Colorado Springs and counseling at Star Ranch during the summer, she moved to Colorado Springs to work full-time with Young Life.
Millie met and married John in 1950. They built a home in the Broadmoor area where she continued to live until her death. When her children were born, Millie discontinued working, but began leading Bible Studies. She taught at the Air Force Academy, led two studies in Colorado Springs, taught Sunday School classes at First Presbyterian Church and for many years led couples Bible Studies for adults at Silver Cliff Ranch near Buena Vista, CO. Eventually, Millie returned to work at the Young Life Service Center and then eventually volunteering until she was 95-years-old. She enjoyed her time interacting with people at work, going to lunch with friends and continuing Bible Studies over the phone and in her home.
Millie enjoyed many outdoor activities with her family, including skiing, camping and hiking. She loved spending time in the mountains, and when possible, visiting the ocean. Her first passion; though, was always Gods calling in her life. A favorite quote of hers was, "There's only one life, twill soon be passed, and only what's done for Christ will last." Millie was a force for Christ touching hearts wherever she was sent by God.
Services will be Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou St., Colorado Springs, CO. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Young Life, P.O. Box 520, Colorado Springs, CO 80901-0520 with the designation to YL Pueblo - CO91 and/or YL Colorado Springs - CO71.

I was sad to hear of the passing of Millie. I know what an influence she had on my mother. I remember a ski trip I went on with her family in Divide, CO, hanging out with Suzanne and having Millie teach me how to stop those darned boards on my feet. I skied for >50 years after that. She also helped me get a summer job at Trail West, which I will remember for the rest of my life. Millie was a force to be reckoned with, but always for the good. My condolences to her family.

Pat, Danny, and Suzanne, please know of my condolences and prayers for you and your families in the loss of your sweet mom. Millie and I worked together in the Young Life Foundation office at the Young Life Service Center for several years and she was such a dear friend. I wish I could attend her memorial service, but time and distance keep me away. I loved your mom so much and count her as a good friend. She was a special lady.
