Mona Ludene Atkins, 87, passed away January 21, 2026, in Colorado Springs. She was the wife of Robert Atkins. They were married June 11, 1961, in St. John, KS, sharing 64 years together.
She was born March 23, 1938, in St. John, the daughter of Millard and Nelda (Jefferies) Ackley. She graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1960. She worked at Hays (KS) High School as a Business Teacher from 1960-1961, the Credit Bureau of Colorado Springs from 1975-1992, and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office from 1992-2001, from which she retired.
Mona was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, needlework, reading, puzzles, and spending time in the mountains. She was a handy person that enjoyed building and fixing things and was an excellent piano player. She always made sure there was dessert after a meal, especially ice cream or anything chocolate.
She is survived by her husband Robert Atkins, daughter Teresa (Bob) Romero of La Salle, CO, son Gregory Atkins of Pittsburg, KS, granddaughter Sarah Romero of Colorado Springs, brother Millard Ackley Jr., of Haysville KS, and sisters Beverly McGee of Mesquite, TX, and Nancy Clarkson of Arkansas City, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Thomas Ackley of St. John, KS.
Visitation will be held from 2-5pm on February 2nd at Dove Witt. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 10am at Dove Witt Family Mortuary.
