Dear Grandfather,
I am so very proud to be your grandson, and so very happy to have had you in my life.
The memories… oh there are so many!
All those mornings and afternoons, sitting on the deck with you and grandmother in the sun, looking down upon that beautiful landscape below.
Hearing all my favorite stories of long ago, when you were a boy. Like the one when you tried to parachute that cat out of the tree (and how it retaliated!)
Hiking, rock climbing, camping in Proteus… you taught me how to play chess.
Your hearty laughter at the dinner table and the most interestingly tasty things: Bread pudding, corn chowder, and my favorite, chicken and dumplings!
Hearing, in wonder, how you served and survived combat in France and Germany, and the tales behind each of the your war treasures, which made that room seem more like a secret vault than the basement.
Thank you for the amazing maze of rocks, trees, and trails where we grandchildren adventured… your back yard!
Grandfather, you were many things to me.
You were a role model, a disciplinarian, a teacher, a warm and funny individual, someone to strive to be like.
You were an adventurer with endless stories, who lived a deep, meaningful life… and you shared it with us.
You were a brave defender of our freedom, Colonel, putting yourself in harms way to keep us from it.
But most of all, you were my grandfather, with open arms and a big, loving heart.
Farewell Grandfather. You will always be with me.
Love,
Ben

Dear Grandfather,
I"m so thankful to have had you in my life. The first thing I will always remember about you is your laugh. I feel a persons laughter says so much about them. Your laughter was infectious, unapologetic, bold, appreciative, real. I loved it. If I want to remember you, your laugh rings clear.
Secondly, your connection to nature. Thank you for making such a beautiful backyard with trees reperesenting grandchildren/cousins, paths, strawberry patches, sanctuaries for fairytales, housing for magpies named Maggie and landscapes to set off the Colorado skyline, or of the late afternoon visitor, Black Bart.
Thank you for the camping trips in Proteus, peach cobbler, black cows, pink milk, pancakes and bacon, rootbeer floats, war stories. tales of exploding chicken coops, discipline and love, vocabulary lessons(" may I"), manners, the letter you wrote me when I decided to move to LA, 20$ for the steak dinner, and recognizing that I loved to sing.
Thank you for you're protection and LOVE. You will forever be in my heart, and please know you gave me the gift of family and history.
Love,
The pancake queen.

To my favorite Colonel! It was a pleasure to have hiked with you. My favorite climb was taking you and Jack up Silverheels and glissading down with ice axes. You were a gentleman and a scholar! Peace my friend...Faye: Bless you and take care. Fond memories! Judy from the Colo. Mtn. Club.

Those were some great days in the mountains, Morrie. You were a role model and inspiration for me; I wanted to keep on hiking the hills like you did.

I will forever have fond memories of driving out to your home in Colorado Springs--your arms opening wide to greet us at the front door, with a smile so warm and welcoming! You had such energy and a zest for life that was felt by all around you.
I still see you now dancing to ABBA, making rootbeer on the back porch, or cooking for your guests. Beyond the playful side, you had an elegant, charming demeanor.
And, I won't ever forget the love you had for Grandmother—from the way she looked to the sound of her voice.
We were all very lucky to have known you and even luckier to have had you in our family. You will be missed.

We love you, Daddy, and will always miss your presence. You have been the best father to me and my sisters. You are a truly great husband that devoted his life loving my mother.
You are such an honorable and ethical man. I can only hope to live up to your high standards. Your family will remember you as a caring family man and as a dedicated professional military soldier and officer, who served with distinction.
