Morton Korenberg Obituary

KORENBERG, Morton It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a very remarkable man, our wonderful father, Dr. Morton Korenberg, on Friday, July 30, 2010, at the age of ninety-six, at the Jewish General Hospital. Beloved husband and best friend of the late Sarah Esther Mendelson. Devoted and caring father and father-in-law of Drs. Lela Korenberg and Malcolm Macfarlane, Dr. Michael Korenberg and special friend, June Fransblow, and Marion and Hillel David. Cherished grandfather of Wendy and Ian Sewell, David Macfarlane, Karen Macfarlane, Robert David, and Daniel and Rosie David, and great-grandfather of Makayla Sewell. Brother and brother-in-law of the late Dr. Lyon and the late Mary Korenberg, the late Clara and the late Abe Katz, and the late Sol and the late Goldie Korenberg. Brother-in-law of the late Hyman and the late Gertrude Mendelson, Edward and Madeline Mendelson, Claire and Milton Friefeld, and Dr. Jack and Lola Mendelson. We deeply appreciate the devotion of Liwayway, Cora, Rosemar and Amiliana. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Sunday, August 1 at 11 a.m. Burial at the Beth Yehuda Cemetery, de la Savane. Donations in his memory can be made to a charity of your choice.

Just heard of Mort's passing. On behalf of the Speevak clan, may I pass on our very sincere condolences to Auntie Sarah and family. Plage Laval of course seems not that long ago, and I certainly have vivd memories of 'rescues' as a child by a comparatively very young Dr. Korenberg, GP, who travelled to the "country" from the city, getting home to find a young nephew with a punctured foot that needed immediate tending to, on more than one occasion. And the tremendous dedication to my Mother through her illnesses, back when GPs still made housecalls!!! More than that was the encouragement to all the youngsters to aim for a career in medicine, for there could be no greater rewards ... which reflected the dedication and intellect of this individual. Mort will be remembered with admiration and love by all.

To all of our very dear cousins,

We are deeply saddened to learn of Uncle Mort's passing.
I have fond memories Uncle Mort and Auntie Sarah.
I recall being at the cottage in Plage Lavalle, dinners at Bubbie Nettie's when our families were together. Uncle Mort was a brilliant man and I recall a gifted musician. I read his books when I was younger with great interest, his ideas were novel but made brilliant sense.

Our thoughts are with you at this very sad time. We send a big hug to all.
