Muriel Fryback Obituary

Born June 20, 1924 to Cyrele and Deborah Schlessinger in Colorado Springs, CO. Muriel was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred and Lois. Muriel passed away on March 27, 2008 during emergency heart surgery in Durango, CO. She graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1942 in the top 7% of her class of 405 students. She graduated from CU with a degree in Education in 28 months. She married her high school sweetheart, S/Sgt. Richard E. Fryback in 1945. They moved to Durango, CO in 1953, where Muriel was County Superintendent of Schools and a reading specialist for many years. She suffered a spinal cord injury in 1968, but learned to walk again with the aid of crutches, then a cane, defying the doctors' predictions. Despite continual pain in her legs and feet, she always had a smile and kind word for everyone she met. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and teacher. Her family meant everything to her. Muriel is survived by her husband, Dick Fryback of Durango, son, Greg Fryback of Durango, daughter, Carolyn Green of Colorado Springs, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, ten nieces and nephews.
