Myrene "Mike" Lark Hoge, aged 88, was called by her Lord and Savior June, 22nd, 2023, having been in Hospice Care at home attended by a Nurse and Sterling Sorrell.
Myrene Evans was born on October 23rd, 1934 in Salt Lake City, to Mr. Shirley and Mrs. Kathelyne Evans. Early life was in Ho-Ho-kus, New Jersey, followed by a year at an Ohio university, but, when her family returned to Salt Lake City, Mike took three undergraduate years at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Kathelyne Evans had nicknamed her second child "Mike".
At Boulder, a Marine Veteran of the Korean conflict, Donald Baker Hoge, courted her. They married at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, Sunday, June 3rd, 1956. They lived in Arvada, Colorado. She taught, and Don was an accountant and systems analyst for Shell Oil Company, in Denver. A son, Jim, and daughter, Sandy, were adopted. Don preceded Mike in death in 1985 and, later on she lost Sandy in 2013.
Participating in a "single adult" Bible Study group, in 1990, she met Sterling N. Sorrell, who had been an acquaintance of Don Hoge. Sterling courted her. They married in March, 2001. They became residents of Discovery Village in Alliance (Fort Worth, Texas) early in the snow emergency and pandemic of March, 2020. In the 3 years preceding her death, Mike experienced multiple surgeries in Tarrant County.
Mike had an active social life, was a choir singer as a member of her faith throughout her life. She was a founding member of the Ridgewood High Ladies, a group of 8 or 9, who formed a girl gang, treasuring their annual reunions through the years since High School. Mike trained as a "Steven Minister", to give pastoral care to Christians in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She and Sterling were among founders of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, near the U.S. Air Force Academy, where she attended until 2020. For many years Mike was also a docent at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and a member of the CS Symphony Guild. By 1992 she was a "sometime golfer" at Patty Jewett Memorial Course in Colorado Springs in the century-old "Old North End". In 2020 Mike became a communicant of St. Barnabas Anglican Church after moving from Colorado Springs.
Myrene Hoge is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, and Sandy, her daughter.
She is survived by husband, Sterling. N. Sorrell; her son, James "Jim" Hoge and wife Susan, of Grapevine, Texas; her grandchildren Liz Hoge, John Hoge, Kyle Strong, and Kristy Strong; and her great grandchild Rhys Hoge.
Mike touched the lives of so many, and was a great source of comfort and strength to her family. She firmly carried on her business and social life. She will be deeply missed.
A Memorial, with reception to follow, will be held at Discovery Village's chapel at 3401 Amador Drive, Alliance, Texas at 10 a.m. on July 1st. Her ashes will be sent to a columbarium at Chapel of Our Savior in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to one of:
[1] The University of Utah Graduate School of Education Fund; or
[2] The Discovery Village employee's Gift Fund, c/o Ms. B. J. Cooper, at Discovery Village, 3401 Amador Dr. Apt 4304, Ft. Worth, Texas 76711.
The women's guild of St. Barnabas Anglican Church will prepare refreshments and light snacks for the worshipers who attend at Discovery Village, on July 1st.
