Nancy Barclay Obituary

July 18, 1931 - December 13, 2008
Nancy was born in Alliance, Ohio. In her youth she was somewhat of a tomboy and loved playing the ukulele. She graduated from Alliance High School in 1949, was active in Girls' Athletic Club where she lettered in Crew and entertained her many friends with her antics. She met her future husband, Tom Barclay, in high school. She briefly attended Bowling Green State University where she studied Physical Education and Dance. She left college to marry her high school sweetheart, Tom, in 1953. On March 1, 1957, they had a daughter, Carey Elizabeth (Barclay) Edwards. The family moved to Colorado Springs in 1967. Nancy worked at several places in Colorado Springs, including High Valley Farms, LouArt Press, and Capp Homes. At Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, she worked in the dietary department where she loved serving the staff and visitors. Nancy was famous for her "made to order omelets," her warmth, caring and her sense of humor. She retired from her career at Memorial Hospital in 1996, Nancy was an avid Denver Broncos fan, loved to go to Cripple Creek, enjoyed reading and music. She also enjoyed participating in an exercise class four days a week at the Health Learning Center. Mostly, she enjoyed and cherished the friends she made there. She and her son-in-law, Darryl, were buddies and spent most Friday mornings together engaging in conversation over breakfast. Spring was her favorite season and she was always excited to help Carey plan her flower gardens. Nancy loved to tell a good story and always shared many lovely memories of her childhood. She is survived by her siblings, LaRilla Snode, Margaret Diehl, Shirley Specht, and Thomas Stanley, her daughter, Carey Edwards, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Garland Stanley and Bernice (Hoover) Stanley; her sister Annabelle Petee; her husband, Thomas Barclay; her brother, John Jacob Stanley; and nephew, Jack Stanley. She lived the last twelve years of her life with her daughter, Carey, and son-in-law, Darryl. She brought joy and laughter to our home and we will miss her deeply.
