Nancy Davenport Obituary

Nancy Ruth
(Bull) Davenport
December 26, 1946
June 9, 2024

Nancy Ruth (Bull) Davenport (age 77) lost her long and difficult battle with Alzheimer's Disease on June 9, 2024.

Nancy was born on December 26, 1946, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Herman Otto Bull and Ruth Elizabeth (Rehm) Bull. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Brenda Lynn (Bull) Emerick.

Nancy graduated at the top of her class from Pascack Valley High School in Hillsdale, New Jersey, and then went on to attend and graduate from Douglass College in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on a full scholarship, majoring in mathematics. It was there that she met her husband of over 56 years, George Davenport. They had eight children and nine grandchildren. Their children are David Davenport (wife Kelly), Hainesport, New Jersey; Mark Davenport (wife Suzanne), Great Falls, Virginia; Elizabeth Davenport, Fort Collins, Colorado; Christine Davenport Brown, Colorado Springs; Susan Davenport Birky (husband Demond), Colorado Springs; Stephanie Davenport Rountree (husband Edward), Waynesville, Missouri; Marilyn Davenport, Denver, Colorado; and Miriam Davenport, Boise, Idaho.

Nancy was a proud, loving and dedicated stay-at-home Mom, devoted to caring for her children wherever George's U.S. Air Force career took the family. This included assignments in Texas, California, Nebraska, Iran, Ohio, and finally Colorado Springs for the last 41+ years. Before becoming inflicted with Alzheimer's disease, she provided foster care for dozens of infants for Lutheran Family Services and the Department of Human Services. She was always an active and faithful member of the local church which the family regularly attended every week until the dementia from her Alzheimer's disease kept her at home.

A Memorial Service is planned for 10:00 AM on Monday, June 24, 2024, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 5265 North Union Boulevard, Colorado Springs, CO 80918, with a luncheon to follow the service. Nancy's ashes will be interred at Pikes Peak National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Nancy's memory to St. Luke's Lutheran Church or to the Alzheimer's Association (http://www.alz.org), which will hopefully someday eradicate this terrible disease.

I went to high school with Nancy, she was such a bright and lovely person. I am glad that she had such a beautiful full life filled with love of family and service to her community. It is so sad to hear that this awful disease took her from her family. Wishing you all peace

Nancy and George have been wonderful neighbors for the past 33+ years. Loved watching them gracefully raise the girls from Elizabeth (Liz) on! She will always be remembered. Prayers for peace and comfort for your family.
