Nancy Jean Siergiej Hill, 70, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, was called home to Jesus on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, after a long battle of declining health.
Nancy was born on August 11, 1953, to Edward and Mary Siergiej in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Greenville Texas High school in 1971, Nancy went on to study and graduate with degrees in English and French at the University of Texas at Austin and San Antonio.
In 1971, Nancy met Zack Hill for the first time in a dorm room at the University of Texas at Austin. After going on a double date (but not with each other!) they eventually found their way together and the rest is history. Zack was captivated by Nancy's loving, encouraging, free-spirited, risk-taking nature. They married on the rainy day of May 24, 1975, in Austin and began their journey together as husband and wife, later adding three cherished daughters, Kelsey, Stacia and Maryn.
Nancy spent her post-graduate years as a high school English and elementary teacher. With three kids freshly underfoot, she lovingly gave of herself to her daughters as a stay-at-home mom. Her creativity knew no bounds as she painted and sewed, captured photos, planted gardens, started businesses writing poetry and providing interior decorating and gift wrapping services, and volunteered at her church and kids' schools. She never passed up an opportunity to dance and sing to her favorite music, celebrate all the big and little things with flair, generously give to anyone in need and share the love of Jesus with all those who crossed her path.
Later on, Nancy returned to full-time work and excelled as an esteemed Master Writer for Dr. James Dobson at Focus on the Family. In her free time, she passionately put pen to paper and became an author of six books published by Tyndale House Publishers. Her family, friends and many around the world continue to be blessed by her books to this day.
In her later years, Nancy enjoyed taking walks with Zack around the neighborhood pond, playing with her four-legged family members, caring for her parents, hosting family gatherings with her children and grandchildren, reading on the couch to her grands and mailing care packages (affectionately titled "Gigi Bags") when apart.
Nancy leaves behind her loving and faithful husband of nearly 50 years, Zack Hill; her three daughters and sons-in-law Kelsey (Mathew) Bardwell, Stacia (Taylor) Williams and Maryn (Nathan) Forney; her eight grandchildren, Luke Bardwell; Atley, Lively, Breck and Dayleigh Williams; and Lenna, Ryken and Wynne Forney; and her two siblings, brother David Siergiej and beloved sister Wendy Rasmussen. She was preceded in death by her ever-loving parents, Edward and Mary Siergiej.
As a family we rest in this powerful truth for Nancy:
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 5:10-11 (ESV)
A private ceremony will be held for Nancy at a future date.
