I fondly remember our 1969 visit to the Markus ranch 'where Dad once worked'.

I remember riding the fattest horse I ever rode which had a misshaped hoof. I rode it bareback and being only 10 my legs of course couldn't grip well; I remember having to hold on for dear life when we weren't on flat ground...which was frequently.

I also remember Naomi making a venison pie and how good it was. Unfortunately, once back home when Mom tried to duplicate Naomi's dish..well let's just say Naomi won and she didn't even know she was in a contest!

Dad always spoke highly of Naomi and Bob; I was glad to be able to visit and meet them and their children, and get to know that part of his life.

I know how difficult this time is as Dad recently passed away. My condolences are with the family and many other friends I know Naomi embraced.

I remember visiting Naomi and Bob when I was in 1969 when I was thirteen. My dad, Doug Hughes, worked on their ranch before he am my mom married. We went in July and were thrilled (as Miamians) to see snow on the mountains. They were so kind to us and I will always have wonderful memories of our visit. It's sad with the loss of my dad in February and now, Naomi. I would like to extend my sympathy to the family.

We respectfully send our deepest, heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Naomi Markus. She was a wonderful woman who loved life and championed her causes.

The Emergency First Responders of Teller County have lost a good and faithful friend. She cared so deeply fo all firefighters, EMT's and law enforcement. You can bet she was welcomed by Fire Chief Shoemaker, Deputy Holloway and Firefighter Grimmer, as well as her many friends and family on her eternal journey home.

To friends and family of Naomi Markus,

I offer my sympathy for your loss as she will be missed by us all. I knew Naomi best through my mother, who has been a close friend with Naomi for 14 years. I am thankful for the caring and loving support she gave to me and my family.

I have known Naomi for many years between my tenure at the Middle School and more recently as a neighbor. Naomi was never afraid to speak her mind, nor pass on news be it good or bad. She was an advocate for many of the things we now take for granted in our corner of Teller County.

Liz and I will miss the occasional phone call around a holiday, or when the snows came just to check in and see how we were doing. I will miss the stories about when she and Bob first moved to the ranch and the changes she has seen from her window over the years. She was a dynamic and wonderful person that many will miss dearly.

To all of the Markus Clan: Your family can lay claim to a grand citizen. Naomi will always be remembered for her involvement in everything that she cared deeply about...and that was a lot. Certainly Teller County, Woodland Park and the RE-2 school system would not be what they are today without the assistance and guidance that Naomi gave over her lifetime. As wonderful as those contributions were, the most prized gift I will remember is the interaction of our two families over a period of 50-plus years. I love you all, and I will miss Naomi. Though I have not seen the Marcus family in 39 years, I can safely state that my memories of Naomi is one of a caring and giving person; and undoubtedly, the best homemade bread maker and cook I have ever met.

To the families of Naomi Markus,

I was so sorry to read of Naomi's passing. I remember Naomi visiting my classroom when I had Michael in 5th grade in Woodland Park. She came to talk about "old time" schooling to my class of 5th graders. From that time I considered Naomi and her family friends. She never forgot about coming to my classroom and was always glad to see me. I saw her most recently at a WP retirement breakfast. As always she was glad to see me and reminded me of her visit to my classroom so many years before. Of course I know Carol and Janice through school. Please accept my condolences. I will be sending a memorial to the Northeast Teller County Fire Protection District in her memory.
