Nathan Gentry Obituary

Nathan Michael Gentry passed away in the comfort of his home on July 29, 2007. Nathan was a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs and a student at Prairie Hills Elementary School. Nathan courageously battled Neuroblastoma cancer for over four years. Throughout his fight he remained a smiling, happy, and loving child. From an early age, Nathan was always fascinated with and became an expert on trucks and construction equipment. He loved playing with his sisters, riding roller coasters, building Lego projects, and delighting in the realism of Playmobil toys. Nathan possessed a maturity and appreciation of the world that was beyond his years. He often commented on the natural beauty he saw around him. Nathan's art always consisted of a scene with beautiful flowers, trees, birds and the sun. Nathan loved school and learning and thrived in the loving environment at Prairie Hills Elementary. We thank the teachers and staff at PHE for giving Nathan a wonderful experience for his two short years there. We also thank Nathan's "family" of doctors and nurses here in Colorado Springs and are especially grateful for the expert and loving care provided by Dr. Stephen Palmer. Nathan is survived by his sisters and best friends, Julia and Lauren, parents Luke and Susan, grandparents Michael and Kathy Gentry, of Oakley, Illinois, grandparents William and Carolyn Ogren of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, uncle Aaron Ogren of Naperville, Illinois, aunt Anna Gentry of Chicago, Illinois, uncle Josh and aunt Jae Gentry of Albuquerque, New Mexico, uncle Jason, aunt Kristi and cousins Kadin and Jasmine Ogren of Greeley, Colorado. A memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 3 at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E Bijou St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. We welcome all whose lives have been touched by Nathan. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation P.O. Box 6635 Bloomingdale, IL 60108 Or to a general memorial fund for Nathan Send or bring checks to: Wells Fargo Bank Attn: Derek Kruse 8620 N. To all of the Gentry family - we're so sorry to hear about Nathan's passing. He was the sweetest little boy in Kindergarten choir at First Pres. My daughter, Michaela, and I, truly fell in love with him. I know that he's safe in heaven now. Missing him every day must be so painful. Please know that our love and prayers are with you at this sad time.

Mike, Kathy, and the entire family,
We are so sorry to hear about Nathan.
Audrey is a classmate of Nathan's at Prairie Hills and spoke of him often. “Of the few boys, that were nice to me, he was the nicest”! “He also liked taco’s, like Miss Skiba.” We all pray and hope you and everyone who knew him, can find the joy that Nathan brought to this world, and pass a little on forward.
Thank You Nathan!

Love and deepest regrets,

Tim, Robin, & Audrey Richter

Dear Luke, Susan, Mike, Kathy, and the entire family,

I was so very sorry to hear of little Nathan's passing. I cannot imagine the sorrow that you all are feeling now, but I pray that the love and embrace of friends and family might surround and uphold you each day. Please know of my thoughts and prayerful support for you all during this most difficult time, and may the words of the "In Paradisum" prayer provide you comfort and solace, as it is addressed especially to Nathan:

"May angels lead you into Paradise; may the martyrs receive you at your coming and lead you to the holy city of Jerusalem. May a choir of angels receive you, and with Lazarus, who once was poor, may you have eternal rest."

With love in Christ,

Lou and Gretta Yore

Luke, Susan and family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. Nathan touched our lives and our friends' lives in a very special way. Our friends in St. Louis, our friends here in Canton, Il. and our many pastor friends from our home churches and from seminary have been praying for Nathan and also for all of you during Nathan's illness. Somehow, even those who had never met Nathan, felt as though they knew him and are mourning your loss, yet rejoicng as He is now resting in Heaven, finally free of his pain. Nathans' illness brought thousands of people on their knees praying to God united in their prayers for Nathan. What a gift Nathan brought to us all. Love, Uncle Mike, and Aunt carol

Luke - You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers as I learn the news about Nathan. I'll miss having Nathan around the Nursery at First Pres. I remember he, and Julia were two of the first kids I ever worked with at the nursery. Nathan was 5 and only came to first service in the nursery, and went to sunday school for second service. I will always remeber how he would correct me on the names of some of the construction cars/trucks we have.

As one of his kindergarten teachers at First Pres, it was with great sorrow I heard of Nathan's passing. My heart will be a little more empty knowing he's gone. But my heart is also full knowing that one day I'll see him again and we can play trucks together! Sleep in the arms of Jesus, little soldier. God bless you Gentry family. You are in my prayers
