Papa Reed is laid to rest today, and although I can’t be there in person to say farewell to my beloved friend, I am there in spirit and reflect upon all the wonderful memories he has left with me.
I remember walking in the front door of the Reed home, and upon reaching the top step of the landing, recall the look on his face as he glanced over his shoulder from his spot at the head of the kitchen table and said, “Hey stranger, where you been?” He always had a word of advice for me, whether it was for my car, tips for taking care of my lawn, or anything else I needed to ask he was there waiting with the answer. I remember the many holidays spent gathered around the table, holding hands saying grace with the family. He never left me or my son out of anything and was my Colorado Papa when my own family was far away. I always had a home to go to, a warm hug and kiss, and a meal to share in with the family.
So it is with love and gratitude that I say a loving goodbye until we meet again. You will be always and forever in my heart, dearest friend.
Love,
Stephanie

When I am dead, my dearest

When I am dead, my dearest,
Sing no sad songs for me;
Plant thou no roses at my head,
Nor shady cypress tree:
Be the green grass above me
With showers and dewdrops wet;
And if thou wilt, remember,
And if thou wilt, forget.

I shall not see the shadows,
I shall not feel the rain;
I shall not hear the nightingale
Sing on, as if in pain:
And dreaming through the twilight
That doth not rise nor set,
Haply I may remember,
And haply may forget.
