We deeply regret the passing of our amazing dad, Nathaniel (Nat) Sojourner, who went home to be with our mom and our Lord on July 23, 2021. While we're deeply sad, we're also deeply glad, as dad fought Parkinson's Disease for many years, and we know he was tired, and was ready to be reunited with his bride of 62 years.
Nat was born on Feb 28, 1936, in Savannah, GA to James and Louise Sojourner. He was raised in, and loved, the South, but eventually moved to California, where he met Joy Russell, the absolute love of his life. They were married on April 24, 1959, in Ventura, CA, where their family would make countless memories, including Point Magu, Disneyland, Fosters Freeze, the Craig family, falling through a glass sliding door… priceless smiles.
Nat and Joy adopted two sons, and following computer industry and Civil Service stints in various locations across the country, they settled in Colorado Springs, CO in 1969. After decades in Colorado, Nat and Joy RV'd to Apache Junction, AZ, where they found lifelong friends, camping buddies, card and game players, and Happy Hour aficionados. The Rocky Roos, Roadhaven Resorters, and Tucson Andersons became their Arizona extended family, blessing them with deep friendships and love.
Nat is survived by his sons Russ (Lori) and Bill Sojourner, of Colorado Springs, CO. Also surviving are his grandchildren Jim (Emmy) Sojourner and Allie (Ben) Theune, and his great granddaughters Rosalie and Louisa Theune.
Nat loved his family more than anything in this world. He cherished grits and BBQ while swapping stories with his family at the River near Denmark, SC, he happily survived sunburns while watching his boys waterski at the Lake near Paso Robles, CA, he didn't mind losing a few dollars with his family and friends at casinos big and small in NV, AZ, or CO, and because he so loved his wife, and wished to avoid her wrath, he endured countless hours of cards and dominoes. He was such a good, gentle, kind, and loving man, and we'll miss him greatly, forever.
No services are planned, but his family will appropriately celebrate with laughter, stories, and memories, and we sincerely thank everyone who had such a significant impact on Nat's life.
