Sgt. 1st Class Neil A. Prince

Neil A. Prince Obituary

Born in Jamaica, Neil Armstrong Prince traveled across the country and to Korea and Germany during almost 16 years in the military. "He loved being a soldier," said his wife, Suzette. "I tried to get him to leave, but he always said that's his job." Prince, 35, of Baltimore, Md., died June 11 when a roadside bomb exploded south of Ramadi. He was based at Fort Carson. He met his wife while she was working as an Army medic, and the couple had a 4-year-old son, Jordan. Prince loved three things above all else _ his son, his wife and sports. "Oh, he enjoyed sports, I mean, thought, ate and slept everything that had to do with sports," his wife said. "And he always said he would give his son everything he wasn't able to get." Prince graduated from Baltimore City College in 1989 and served in the Gulf War. During a tour in Germany, he grew to like beer, and when he came home he would grab a Heineken and watch sports on television with his father.

I had the opportunity to speak with Neil for a good half hour before our mission on June 11, 2005. We were talking all about Field Artillery..the heat that day..life..random stuff. I could tell he was a great guy. I'm glad I got to know him, even for such a short time. I think about him and Casey often. He is not forgotten by those who served with him. He never will be.

To the Prince family,
Many years ago when I was a new soldier coming to Ft. Lewis I meet this man by the name of Neil Prince. He was the first person to walk up and talk to me. And from that point on he was and will always be what I call "A Friend". He always had my back when we were on the streets or doing the Army thing. He was my boy! I know that he is in a good plcae and that he is looking down on his family, still fighting and still protecting. My prayers to the family and I am sorry I am just now saying this. A friend informed me last week of his passing. Prince- I will see you on the other side and maybe we can sit down and talk about old times like we said we would do when we bumped into each other before you deployed to Korea. Rest in Gods Peace my brother....

I just want you to know that I love you and Jordan very much and may God continue to give you the courage and strength to move on each and everyday. You are strong and beautiful and Neil was extremely lucky to have you as a wife just as you were lucky to have him for a husband. Lots of Love Always,

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Neil, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

"Today is your baby's seventh birthday and I remember it so well. I remember how you looked after he was born. You were such a proud and protective dad. I told Jordan about that morning seven years ago and he was all smiles. I know Jordan misses not having you around and has lost a very important part of himself when we lost you. Jordan and I will never forget you! Rest in peace knowing that we love you and that we will be thinking and talking about you always."

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

My brother you will be missed in body mine and soul.I met Neil in JAN OF 2002,we both arrived at FT.SILL at the same time on a trap assignment to teach A-I-T for the 13 DELTA'S.I knew from the moment that I first met SFC Prince that he was a true and down to earth person.Neil always had the right answers and it was like this guy could predict the future. He knew when you had a personal or professional problem,he was always there to give a helping hand. Before SFC Prince left for korea we had a long talk.I'll never forget his words, "this is your year Harris you will get promoted not only that but with a low sequence number between 1 and 10".When the promotion list did come out he was right he was always right.SFC Prince help put me in the position to be successful not only in my military accomplishments but in my life accomplishments. To have known him you had to love him. I wanna give my deepest sympathy to Sue,Jordan and the rest of the Prince family. May God Bless You And Keep You Safe.

To the Prince Family, I would like to say that I serve twice with SFC Prince. We were both instructors on the Paladin NETT at Ft Sill OK and we went to Korea together and we deployed to Iraq together. SFC Prince was one the greatest guys I ever met and his death hit me hard because I was home on leave from Iraq at the time of his death. I can still remember the Tuesdays and Thursdays at Ft Sill playing basketball and drinking a cold beer afterwards. I would like to say that you would always be miss and may god bless your wife and son.

To the Prince family, please accept my deepest sympathy and condolences. I knew SFC Prince, while we were assigned to 4-3 FA in 1990. He was an outstanding soldier. I also ran into him back at Fort Sill, I told him that he had come a long way, since his days in northern germany. He kinda smiled and said it was good to see someone from Garlstedt.

Riding his bike, hitting a home run at tee ball, being silly... We miss and love you so much. There is not a day that goes by that I do not hurt for you. My heart aches. I am not sure how I get through each day, but I do. I Thank God for you, but I wish and pray that you were still here, for us to grow old together and see our grandkids. May your soul rest in peace my friend, husband, one and only lover. I served with SFC Prince in Korea while he was in Divarty, before he left for Iraq. During a 3 week field problem, (which was my first field exercies in the army, outside basic and AIT)I was his RTO. He tought me alot during that FTX and the many other exercises we did together. During the time we spent together I remember him always talking about his family. Hi Suzette,

I am so sorry to hear about what truly is a great loss. Neil was a really great person, I went to high school with him and always remember he had the best smile. He is someone who will live on in the memories of all who knew him. I will pray for you and his son that god will give you grace and mercy to endure this time ahead without him. Know that you are not alone and that you will continue to be in my prayers.

September 11, 2005

To Mrs. Neil Prince I would first like to express my deepest sympathy for your loss and I have you in my thoughts daily. I also lost a son that day, Casey Byers and another son 9 days later. I understand the pain you are having to endure and I pray that life will become easier with time for you and this family. I need to get in touch with you as I have something to give you. A fellow soldier on R and R from Iraq brought me a gift and he was crying stating it was Casey's necklace and it was found later at the scene of the site they lost there lives. As I look at this piece I came to realize that it was not my sons but your husbands. It is a silver dog tag but it has a picture in it of I am guessing you, your son, and your husband. As I cry holding it I truely want it to be given back to the true owner of this necklace. I am hoping with time that we can find some inner peace and can relish the memories that we have of our loved ones. Can anyone reading this please get me her address or a way to correspond with Mrs. Prince so that I know where to send this precious piece of her husbands. With my utmost respect for your husband and your family. a grieving mother Ann Byers Please take it slow and one day at a time. Blessed is the man that walketh not in the council of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful but, his delight is in the law of the lord. May you stand steadfast through this life's storm. Believe that he shall provide strength and courage. You will always be in my prayers. May GOD bless and keep you always. SGT C-A

I did not know Sgt. 1st Class Prince, but I pray each day for an end to war and the safe return of all those who serve. My condolences are extended to the Prince family, and may God comfort his young son.

Prince,

We will miss you very much. This news was very shocking to me and I still can't believe it. We have not been in touch for years. I really regret that. I remeber when I met you at Fort, Lewis in 1994. You and my brother, SSG Barick Watts, were best friends. You was the sweetest guy. You were always polite and carried yourself like a gentleman. I pray for your soul and your family for strength and comfort. This is so hard for us all. God will surely take care of them. In due time, your death will be accepted, but you will never be forgotten and will always be loved. We have lost a magnificent man, but God has gained an angel. Now, look over your family and friends and be our guardian angel. We love and miss you dearly. Now rest in peace our little soldier for God's plan can never fail.

To Neil's family, the Watts' send our love and prayers. Please contact me if you should see this message.

Love, Rika

I met SFC. Prince shortly before that last convoy. He was telling me he was heading home soon and that he was glad to be getting out of Iraq. Although I only knew him for a short time I could tell he was a very smart and loving person. We are all brothers here, and his memory will not be forgotten ever.

To the family of SFC Neil Prince my prayers are with you. I did not know your love one, but he is military and so is my son. My son served in Desert Storm and also in Iraq. I pray that your family can find some peace from your memories of Neil. I'll continue to pray for his wife and son, and may his son grow up being very proud of his dad. His father gave his life for this country. Prayerfully, his son will continue to know freedom!!

To the family of SFC Neil A Prince, Neil was more than just a good soldier, he was a good friend as well as a good person. I have known Neil for several years. I have lots of fun memories, from being one of his groomsman to playing sports together to him sharing his expert military knowledge. Brother, you will be missed by many. May god always be with you. Rest in peace.

Our dear nephew, Kevin William Prince, was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq on April 23, 2005.

We know what your family is going through. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Our boys were heros and we can never lose

sight of this. God bless your family.

On behalf of the Byers family we wish to express our regrets and prayers for your loss. You probably did not know our son Casey who unfortunately was the other soldier who lost his life with you. We offer our prayers and sympathy to your family, as we know exactly what they are going through at this moment. The world lost two fine young men on that day, but the heavens gained two fine young angels. May you rest in peace.
