Neil Yaws Obituary

Lt. Col. Ret. Neil Scott Yaws, age 68, of Addison, ME, passed away unexpectedly on March 25, 2016.

He was born on January 15, 1948, in College Station, TX, to Harry L. Yaws and Bernice "Mickey" Conklin Yaws.

Neil grew up in Alta Loma, TX and graduated from Texas A&M in 1971. He was commissioned in the United States Army and served his country in Okinawa, Germany, Korea and Desert Storm. While living in Texas, he was on a hunting trip in Maine and met his current wife, Irene. He moved to Maine in 2005.

Neil was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed reading and was always ready for a new travel adventure. He was of course, a dedicated Texas Aggie.

Neil was always a Texas cowboy at heart, and will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Central Texas Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Killeen, TX. A service will be conducted on April 5 at 1100, at the Harper Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen, followed by burial at 1300. There will also be a celebration of his life at his home in Maine this summer for friends unable to travel to Texas.

Neil was truly a special man with a ready smile and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Irene Mottram Yaws of Maine; his daughter, Elizabeth "Bear" Yaws Casey and her husband Jason; son Scott Lance Yaws and his fiancée Meagan Davis; grandchildren Cali Cottrell and Wyatt Yaws; step-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Jason Casey, Jr. all of Colorado Springs and stepson, Ellic Mottram and his wife Amanda, of Maine. He is also survived by his sister, Marcia Yaws Dyer and her husband Steve, of San Saba, TX.

Other Texas family survivors include: nephew Trey Dyer and family; cousins Phyllis Yaws Stegner and family, Carol Yaws Roddy and family.

Neil is also survived by extended family and numerous friends from all over the country. He greatly appreciated their love and friendship.

In lieu of flowers please spend time with someone special to you in Neil's memory. Arrangements entrusted to Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home,
