Nell Starker Obituary

Nell C. Starker, 85, died peacefully in Wheat Ridge, CO., on September 29, 2006. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, TX on July 21, 1921. She graduated from Shreveport Schools of Nursing, Tri-State Hospital, Shreveport, LA in February 1944 as a Registered Nurse and married William A. (Bill) Starker of Rifle, CO on August 8, 1946. In 1950 Bill was recalled into the United States Air Force and they began wonderful careers together as an Air Force officer and wife, mother and homemaker. Their assignments included Texas, Alabama, Germany, Maine, Virginia, and Iran before retiring in Colorado. Nell enjoyed being a mother, traveling with her family, cooking, and entertaining. After her children left home she returned to nursing and continued as a nurse and caregiver in one form or another until the end of her life. She was a compassionate and caring woman with strong spiritual faith. Those who knew her will miss her sound words of wisdom, thoughtfulness, kind heart and warm smile. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, William A. Starker of Wheat Ridge, CO; her son William J. (Bud) Starker and his family, wife Mary and sons John and Adam of Wheat Ridge, CO; and her daughter Ann S. Spencer and and her family, husband John, and daughters, Molly of Bondville, VT and Elizabeth Charest and her husband, Gregg of Jamestown, RI. A memorial service to celebrate Nell's life will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at 12:00 noon at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 1980 Dahlia Street, Denver, CO 80220. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Lung Association or the charity of your choice.
