She was an avid gardener and civic volunteer. She became involved in volunteer work during World War II while her husband, Don, was in service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Minnie Lee McCulley; brother, Ray McCulley; and sisters, Grace McBride, Florine Young and Will McLester.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 68 and a half years who cherished her dearly, Don McElroy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Childhaven Children's Home, Cullman, the Alzheimer's Association or your favorite charity.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the caregivers at Gadsden Regional Medical Center and Northside Healthcare who cared for Mrs. McElroy during her long illness.
In Nell's words, "I enjoy meeting people in other parts of the country and observing their way of life. As for my way of life, I may be too busy, but never bored."
Visitation will be held on Monday from noon until the hour of service at Collier-Butler.

Dearest Don,

We wouild like to extend our deepest sympathy in the loss of Nell. What great memories I have of Friday night visits to the McElroy's home or weekend visits at the lake home. Miss Nell always had everything perfect for her guests. I am so sorry we missed the funeral. Mom and I did not learn of her passing until after the funeral. I know dad is happy to see Miss Nell again and we will be remembering you in our prayers by asking God to give you peace and comfort during the days and months ahead. We rest on God''s s promise that her pain has been removed and she is resting in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ! Love Nina Jones and "Strawberry"

Dear Aunt Nellie,

You will remain in our thoughts and our hearts forever. One of my very first memories in life, was when I was a child, of three or four years, and you came to care for me, my brothers, and my sister... while our parents were away, on business. We all share, in the mourning of your passing, along with your loving husband... our 'Uncle Don'.

Love ~

Your Nephew,

January 15, 2011

Aunt Nelle;
Thank you for being like a real "Mother" to me because I wanted to be just like you when I grew up. You had great patience with us McBride children and I loved your visits with our family.

I will still feel your presence in my life. You always made me feel special coming from a family of two sets of twins. Your soft and gentle spirit speaks volumes of the caring and thoughtfulness you gave to so many people in your dedicated life. I know that Uncle Don will miss your presence in this world. He has always been a special Uncle to me too. I have learned much about Heaven and God's love for us by obeserving his dedicated love for you.
