Rip Nick. I first met Nick in 1976. We both had vans and our wife's worked at Farmers insurance. He was a lifelong friend and would often see me at Safeway where I worked. Always talking about the next baddest boxer. I moved away in 2008 and was planning a trip back to the springs and found out that he had passed. Miss you man.

I moved to Colorado Springs in 1977. A co-worker referred me to a little Barber Shop on Mount View Lane. Nick’s father cut my hair the first couple of visits. Then Nick took over. Nick was 6 months younger than me. We grow up at the same time, although in different places and in very different ways. Discovering that over the years was an interesting journey. All I wanted was a Barber. But that is not the way it worked with Nick. I ended up with a friend.

I met Nick shortly after I moved to the Springs in 1986. That's 38 years of laughter, conversation, and good haircuts. We've all lost a big part of our lives. Blessings to his family and to all of us. Rest in peace, amigo.

I moved to the Springs in 85 with my wife and 2 boys. Looking for a barber we crossed paths with Tony. We continued on with Nick since that day. He cut my hair along with both my sons and lately my grandsons. We will miss him.

How fortunate I was to have been referred to the Fontanas 44 years ago. As we read through these memories I see the same story, the number of years we all went to Nick for a haircut, his conversations and dear friendship. Nick, buddy, we will all miss our time with you but, we have been so blessed to have had all the memories with you. Rest in peace Nick.
The picture is my 3 month old daughter´s first haircut, 39 years ago. Nick was excited and did a great job!

My deepest sympathy to Carol and family and friends. What a shock to learn that Nick had passed. Like everyone who knew him, we are all so hurt and at a loss for words. I met Nick in kindergarten and we remained friends for all of our lives. No matter how long it was in between visits it was like he had just seen you yesterday. He was one of the kindest, funniest and knowledgeable sportsman I´ve known. He was an incredible picture in the Old Timers baseball league and then onto our beloved Wasson High school. I´m so glad my friend Debbie and I took the time to go by his barbershop when in town on one of the last times I was home. He was raised by wonderful people who loved him beyond measure! In memory will live on in the memories with so many Northside friends! Rest in peace buddy. See you on the flip side !

I first met Nick in about 1978 while getting a few haircuts with Fran who was next door. He soon became my barber of choice and good friend. We have swapped our life stories and many smiles and laughs together across all of these years. Despite my moving to Denver and such, I continued to find a way to spend time with him for my regular haircuts for about 46 years now. Conversing and laughing with him was worth every trip. Not to mention a nice haircut. But it was much more than that. I consider Nick a lifelong friend and I would hope the inverse holds true, as well. Godspeed, my friend. We will miss you in many ways.

Wow Fontana, I never thought I would be writing something like this when we are so young--at least I feel we are young.
From kindergarten, junior high and high school, to being the best man at your wedding. We shared so many years of baseball; camping in our backyards dreaming how we would spend our lives. We had so many good times that I could write a book (I'm sure a lot of wouldn't be appropriate to share here). I will always remember the great times we had together and the great friend you always were. Rest In Peace paison, you deserve it. I will see you on the other side.

In November of 1976 I made my first trip to the Fontana Barber Shop. Tony gave me a couple of haircuts and then for the next 47 years, except for one time when I was out of town for several weeks, Nick gave me every haircut I had. He was one of those constants you rarely find in life, and a dear friend. His leaving us so soon leaves a hole in my heart that's not going away. Rest in peace old buddy.

After going to Fontana's hair Salon for the past 45 years, it has come down to a sad ending for me. Nick's father, Tony, was my barber for many years before he left and Nick started to
take of me. We developed a strong bond, as we both appreciated sports. During the 35+ years he cut my hair, we must have spent hundreds of hours talking about the Denver Broncos, Nuggets, Rockies, among other teams. His knowledge of teams, players, and statistics was remarkable. I will always remember after he was finished with me, and didn't have a customer waiting, he would have a seat in the chair next to the barber chair and continue whatever we were discussing. On some occasions he would follow me to my vehicle still carrying on the conversation. Oh, how I will miss this. Nick was not only my barber, but a very good friend. I feel like I have a big void and emptiness in my heart.
Good bye my dear friend, you will be missed!

Although I moved out of Colorado in July, 2023, Nick had been the only barber to cut my hair for 43 years, and for good reason. We're only a few weeks apart in age, and usually shared past life experiences while I was in the well-worn, duct-taped chair. He was interested in anything and everything with nothing off the table, and I never had to say what sort of haircut I wanted other than if it was to be a shorter "Florida Cut" or the longer "Alaska Cut". He is the type of character that makes life much more interesting, and I sorely missed his talents as a barber and conversationalist the moment I moved out of state. And, of course, the shop. A work of art in and of itself, forever preserved in a state of "perpetual 1960's" for lack of a better description.
There was only one Nick, and I'm sure his memory shall be cherished by all of his customers, friends and family forever. The photo shows him on June 17th, 2022 after a haircut, and at the time, the pose just seemed right. R.I.P. Nick, you've earned it!
